Sainsbury cash machine error - £10.00 up!!!

Went to sainsburys this morning as i needed to get £10.00 from my account. There was a guy in front of me who was hogging the cash machine and he kept putting his card in and withdrawing money. I said, is there something wrong with that machine. He said no, its giving out £20.00 for £10.00.
So i put my card in and it did. I asked for a tenner and i got a twenty. I did it 3 times so i got an extra £30.00.
Was really funny as loads of cars were pulling up one after the other and i was wondering why there was such a big queue to use the machine at 7am in the morning.
Now ive woken up, i feel really bad for taking it.
What will happen now? Will i get arrested for stealing? Shall i take it back at lunch?

I don't work in a bank, but I am sure that when the bank realises what has happened, they will be able to track all the transactions for that period and take the money from those accounts.0

maybe it was giving £10 in place of the £20 too, that would be annoying0

I doubt they'll go through the hassle of claiming the money back from each individual. The depot of where the cash machine cassettes are refilled (probably Securicor or Securitas) has obviously put £20 notes in a cassette for £10 notes. They'll be the ones losing out, it's much easier to get them to compensate for their error rather than going after each of the thousands of people who got £10 too much.0

It all depends on what you want to be re-incarnated as ...The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

I'm sure one of these cases was in the news recently.
Those who profitted were given the chance to pay it back or be charged with stealing.
No idea if anyone did get charged but they made it quite plain it was theft!!
EDIT:
Having said that, I just tried to searchout the story:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tyne/3667279.stmwhen word spread the ATM was dishing out £20 notes instead of £10 notes.
The mistake is being blamed on a wrongly-loaded cash cassette in the dispenser, which was provided by another company.
The bank says customers who were given the cash will not have to pay it back.0 -
Hi all,
I work for a bank and sorry to disappoint you but yes the bank will recall all that money as every withdrawal you do is recorded so all they will do is look on the ticket to see when it was loaded with cash and then every customer that has withdrawn money will get a letter and the money will be taken back.
Sorry to be the barer of bad news. Also on previous occasion this has happened the person that loaded the machine got a big slap on the wrist and i have heard 1 or 2 have even lost their jobs over it.

Sainsbury's will have no access to other bank accounts other than PAN number and perhaps sort code and account number.
It will cost them (or whoever owns the machine) more to sort it out than to write it off.
If you get a letter then fine pay it back but if you don't???????0 -
The first 'repost' of the customer receiving such a letter would be to say "Here is my receipt." I assume the bank will then say "We are prepared to prove in a court, if necessary, that the machine you withdrew '£10' from at the date and time shown on your receipt was only dispensing £20 notes from that cache." The problem for the bank is that they are relying on indirect evidence at best - the absence of one cassette designated £20 from their stores - perhaps the presence of one more cassette containing £10 notes still unused. Maybe the empty £20 cassette can be proven to have contained £20s (slightly larger?) and shown to have been removed empty from the ATM in question? I suspect that the circumstantial evidence would trump a dog eared receipt but they would have to push customers with the threat of action rather than the certainty of it for small amounts. The other thing they can do is take money from your accounts with them (as you agree to this) or withdraw your facilities - ie close your account.Hi all,

The bank will not get the money back
It will be too hard to trace etc, they wont know who did get correct, who didnt, who the accounts belong too etc
It would cost them far more cash and resources than they would recall
The money is all yours and its no wonder banks service is so !!!! when people like dipak are talking !!!!!! they dont know about0 -
