Charged interest, Can't understand why?

Hi All,

For the last few years I have been splitting my monthly payment into 2 parts and not had any issues with being charged interest, here is what I have been doing:

5th Statement Produced

I pay an amount over the minimum to leave a round amount to pay.

The 22nd is usually when my min payment would be due but I pay the other amount before the next statent is produced.

The card is provided by New Day and the only thing I can think of is they now do not count a payment after the min date but can't recall anything saying that and can't speak to them untill tomorrow.

Just wanted to know other peoples views on what may have changed?

It's not clear from your post what's happened.

    What was the balance?
    When was the due date?
What payments did you make and when?

Sounds like you are paying after the 22nd - although as zx says, please clarify?

Statement balance on the 5th of April was £622

    I paid £122 on the 8th.

The min payment is due on the 22nd.

I paid the remainder on the 30th.

Statement is produced again today and even shows that I paid the full balance from the last statement.

    Hope that makes sence?

I am, but have paid the min before the min and always cleared before the next statement is produced?

I would have to go back and clarify my dates to see what I have been doing in prior months.

You would have to clear the balance in full by the 22nd to avoid interest.

As above. If you don't pay the full amount by the due date, you get charged interest.

That must be it then - I just looked through my prior months and whenever I have split payment it was always before the min payment date.

The only thing that has changed this month is having man flu and not doing my general admin when I usually would.

It has been blind luck rarther than my understanding that has avoided interest up untill now!

Will just pay with a single payment going forward.

    Thanks all :)

A DD for the full amount would avoid it for you.....if you ever came down with man flu again ;) -
It puts the onus on the bank to take the correct amount on the correct date so you can sit back and leave your money in your account until they collect. (especially good if it's an account that pays interest).

I think that would be the way to go ;) Man flu always gets the better of me!

I do get interest on my current account but have lost a few months worth of interest from my mistake :(

if You pay less than the full amount by the due date you will be charged interest.

Even though the minim is due by 22nd you will need to pay it all to avoid interest.

A little top. Pay your balance a few days before the due date esp if it!!!8217;s a weekend coming up or bank holiday to allow it to clear in time
