Forced To Extract My Own Tooth Because Dentists would Not Do It.
Comments
-
Well at least your dentist gave you the choice. Most don't.
But I think it was because of where I went.
The dentists I went to were all private in Central London.
And that's probably not the place to go if you want simple treatment such as extraction as I did.
I am not sure if I should post the name of the dental clinics I went to in London as it might cause repercussions.
But if you look on their website it seem that they encourage root canals and crowns rather than extractions.
And they also do dental implants which is cosmetic.
So I think they are as we would say " Very Commercial" and more for people who want cosmetic treatment on their teeth than for someone like me who doesn't.
That's probably why they didn't want to take my tooth out.
But there are also private emergency dentists in Essex where I live.
And they also take on new patients.
Maybe I should have gone to one of them instead of in London.

I think you need to tell your social worker about all this, and your GP.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

I think you need to tell your social worker about all this, and your GP.
As you know GP's and Social Workers don't deal with teeth problems.
You have to go to a dentist for that.
My GP written me a supporting letter for my PIP claim.
Now I just have to get the form filled in.
The DWP want it back by the 9th May 2018.
And I got a letter from then on Saturday. Which said if I need more time to fill in the form I must phone them or they could close my claim. And my DLA will be stopped.
But I already phoned them 3 weeks ago telling them I would be late sending in the form. And the woman I spoke to said she will give me another 2 weeks from the 9th.
But now they have sent me this letter saying they want the form back by the 9th.
So that's stressing me out.
But it's bank holiday tomorrow and Tuesday. So I cannot phone then until Wednesday. And I cannot send it off now because I have not yet seen the welfare benefits adviser to fill it in. Because I had toothache all last week. Which I was trying to get sorted.
So there is no way I can get that form back to the DWP by the 9th May.
I hope they don't stop my DLA or close my PIP claim. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
They can't do anything about the teeth. But cutting stitches and pulling your own tooth are not the actions of a mentally healthy person. They can help you improve your mental health.
Phone the DWP tomorrow and ask for an extension. They should give you two weeks. Tomorrow isn't a bank holiday.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
You should follow Ames advice.
You could have caused a serious injury or infection by removing your tooth in this way. What will you do if you get toothache again? Will you remove all your own teeth over time. What will you do if another part of your body hurts?
You saw several dentists about your tooth. If it had needed to be extracted, one of these dentists would have agreed to do so. It looks from your own account that for some of these dentist's you became very angry and shouted and made a fuss in their reception area. If you continue to behave in this way you may be arrested.
Your doctor and social worker can assess whether your mental health is being well managed. If they decide that you are not behaving in a safe manner, they can give you medication and support which will help you to cope better with problems such as toothache, or people not agreeing with you.
If your mental health is a little better, it will be easier for you to complete your PIP documents and this will make you less anxious.
Having mental health problems is not your fault, and you cannot decide not to suffer from this. But medical professionals can help you manage the symptoms when you become out of control and prevent you from harming yourself or frightening or threatening other people.0 -

Oh I didn't know they were open tomorrow.
Some of the banks are not because they call it "Holiday Tuesday."
But I will phone the DWP tomorrow anyway. And if they are open then I will ask for more time to fill in that form.
I have already wrote them a letter on Saturday and posted it asking them this.
But I don't know when they will get it. And I will phone in case they don't.You should follow Ames advice.
I already have a GP which I found last year. She gives me double appointments and longer time. She understands my care needs because I told her. And she has given me a supporting letter which she wrote for me to put in the claim pack. My Ex-CMHT social worker will also write one for me if I ask her which I will.
So no problem there. You could have caused a serious injury or infection by removing your tooth in this way. What will you do if you get toothache again? Will you remove all your own teeth over time. What will you do if another part of your body hurts?
No of course not.
I knew the risk I was taking but I was in such pain. And I knew there was something wrong with that tooth. But I could not find a dentist to take it out. So I had to do it myself. If I hadn't I would still be in pain and it was getting worse and worse.
As well as the pain I could not eat because of that tooth so it had to come out.
If I get toothache again I will go to the dentist my dentist who did extract my tooth. He knows I don't want root canals or crowns.
He will take the tooth out of it needs to come out.
But if he can do a white filling I will have that.
I have got 2 white filings in my 2 bottom right molar teeth and they are fine.
Sometimes you can treat toothache by just putting a filing in and save the tooth. Without having to do a root canal or a crown.
But if not then I will have it taken out.
And yes I would do the same thing again, extract my own tooth if it happened again and no dentist would treat me.
But only if no dentist would do it.You saw several dentists about your tooth. If it had needed to be extracted, one of these dentists would have agreed to do so. It looks from your own account that for some of these dentist's you became very angry and shouted and made a fuss in their reception area. If you continue to behave in this way you may be arrested.
Yes that could happen. I have been barred from places because of this.Your doctor and social worker can assess whether your mental health is being well managed. If they decide that you are not behaving in a safe manner, they can give you medication and support which will help you to cope better with problems such as toothache, or people not agreeing with you.
It's not a matter of people not agreeing with me.
I had toothache and knew there was a problem with that tooth.
But the dentists I saw would not listen to me. That's not my fault but the pain was real. And if I want a tooth out instead of having a root canal it's my mouth and my right to have it extracted.
I won't have a root canal or a crown and put myself at risk of a reaction or the risks of having a root canal and crown.
No I won't.If your mental health is a little better, it will be easier for you to complete your PIP documents and this will make you less anxious.
But my physical heath must be good as well. I cannot do all of that if I am not strong and am in pain.
A toothache that won't go away is effecting your physical heath.
I could not carry on my daily living if I was in constant pain. Or cope with this PIP benefit business.
That tooth had to come out so I took it out. But only because no dentist would do it, but they should have done.Having mental health problems is not your fault, and you cannot decide not to suffer from this. But medical professionals can help you manage the symptoms when you become out of control and prevent you from harming yourself or frightening or threatening other people.
It's not that simple love.
My GP had been trying to get me a CMHT keyworker for over a year. But they won't even see me.
And you cannot always get the help you need.
Well you know the NHS what it's like.
Just read the newspapers.
And finally back to the tooth thing this is the private emergency dentist I went to in Central London.
Have a look at their websites. This gives you an idea what they are like.
24 Hour Emergency Dentist.
http://www.24hour-emergencydentist.co.uk
This was the one with the dentist that said the tooth has to come out. But he did not want to do it because he did not want to risk infection from the extraction I had the day before.
This clinic has over 30 dentists readers won't know which one it is. And I won't tell you as this is a pubic form.
But as you can see this clinic is more for people who want cosmetic treatment. Then tooth extractions as I wanted.
And this Private Dentist here also in Central London:
Dental And Implant Centre
https://www.emergencydentistin.london
This was the one where the dentist said he will only do a rot canal and a crown. Not extraction. If I want the tooth out go somewhere else.
This is also very much for people who want cosmetic treatment. The name of this place says it all.

I think if you tell the GP what you did to yourself you'd get a CMHT appointment. You put yourself in serious danger. It amounts to serious self harm.
The dangers of what you did far outweigh the risks of a root canal.
Please talk to your GP about this. It's really worrying that you're in such a bad place.
I know how hard it can be to get proper mental health support. I have bipolar and I've tried for years to get the help I need. I really think you're at the level where help will be available though.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Well it's never happened to me when I have had other teeth extracted in the past. As I said in my other posts.
So I think the dentist could have accidentally banged or dislodged the tooth during the extraction.
Why did you not take this approach?0 -
Oh I didn't know they were open tomorrow.
Some of the banks are not because they call it "Holiday Tuesday."
Really? Which banks and where? I've never known a bank close on the day after 'MayDay' Bank Holiday Monday.
Oh, and to repeat what others have said, follow Ames' advice. Or maybe I should put it in bold and coloured, does that work for you?

You put yourself in serious danger. It amounts to serious self harm.
No I did not pull my tooth to harm myself.
I did it to help myself. Because I had a bad tooth that was causing me terrible pain.
It was loose and the dentists I saw could see it was loose. That's What was causing the pain and they knew it.
But they would not take it out.
And I could not go on like that for weeks and maybe months in that pain.
So I did the only thing I could do and extracted my tooth myself.
But only because I could not find a dentist to do it.
I did not want to take my own tooth out.
I was very worried that something might go wrong if I did.
But I had no choice. I would have had the tooth out at the dentist. But they would not do it.
So there was nothing else I could do.
It was either I took the tooth out myself. Or stay in pain for weeks and maybe months.
Because the dentists would not do it.The dangers of what you did far outweigh the risks of a root canal.
Well I will NEVER have a root canal.
I won't put myself at risk of that.
A root canal does have lots of risks.
See here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8EjEOqYEYsBut even if that was the case it could very well settle down in a couple of weeks. Many dentists would recommend painkillers, being careful with it and waiting to see how things developed.
Why did you not take this approach?
I was taking painkillers but they did not work.
And I can't live on Ibuprofen for weeks and week.
They can only be taken for a short time or they can damage your stomach.
If the tooth is bad and causing you constant pain you won't get rid of it with painkillers.
The only cure is either treatment.
Or to have it extracted if it cannot be treated.
Or if the treatment such as root canal is not suitable for me which it is not. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
