I've just come into possession of an Asus Eee PC X101, with Windows 7 installed.
Prior to getting it, it's had a complete OS reset, and I'm currently installing 193 updates.
Trouble is, every few minutes it starts playing a video about itself, which is slowing down (almost stopping) the update process.
How can I stop the video from playing?

Unless there is a skip on the video, just pop it in the corner and let it do its thing.
Even on a decent PC updates can be slow.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
It is most likely the screensaver . Disable it in the usual way
Horrible little machines those0 -

The updates don't just run slow. They all but stop.
I went out for about three hours, and by the time I came back, it'd installed just one update.
It's installed five, since I got back 30 minutes ago.0 -
Open task manager and change the update speed to low. Leave task manager visible and let the adverts run again. Then find the program which is responsible for the adverts and work on uninstalling it.
Before checking for updates again, have you looked though Add/Remove programs to check for obvious bloatware. Remove what you won't be using, which is probably most of it. It might also be worth spending a few minutes running Adwcleaner to get rid of anything you don't want.0 -
I've turned off the screensaver and put the power setting to "Never", on all three options, when it's plugged in.poppellerant wrote: »Before checking for updates again, have you looked though Add/Remove programs to check for obvious bloatware.
Will there be much, given it's a brand new install?0 -

I've just noticed, this laptop has been updating for over 24 hours.
It began checking for updates at 1436hrs yesterday.0 -
With limited memory and a weak CPU i would not have updated it at all. Its likely to be adding bloatware and extra load for the CPU.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

However two things you have said in this thread tell me that something is installed that shouldn't be and that you probably have adware/bloatware installed:- You did a factory reset. Typically the images on factory partitions contain pre-installed software
- You have seen videos which appear of their own accord

No, I didn't do a factory reset.
It had been factory reset, when I bought it.Out of interest did you actually use the recovery partition to restore Windows? What was your source of installation?
As above, I didn't do the reset. It was reset when I got it.0
