@efes_shareholder just to say that we are all here for you.  You're doing exactly the right thing in taking some time for you as it will help you to stay resilient.   Good too that your sister is stepping up love Humdinger x
  • its been an eventful day , I've been on to the nurse for pallative care and macmillan referral , occupational health are due any moment
I'm taking everything they throw at us as it was a job getting past the dr receptionist this morning but i have a morphine perscription waiting to be collected when I finish work ...................phone has not stopped , I need to get off of the world for a moment
Trying to work , trying to organise whats needed here and clearing up accidents along the way
I'm sure everything will settle down , I need to have a blood test myself and an ultrasound on my stomach pain which is still persistant

I can't believe you're still working! Could you get a few days off compassionate leave? As you've said there's so many things to get started with. Phone calls and prescriptions and appointments. It will all settle down soon. Well get into a rhythm where you know what you're doing. I only mean for the time being.
Hope you are both fairing as well as possible. Sending you both my love and wishing you strength xxxx

  • i've managed today , had a conference call with my team and they understand now whats happening and if I am dipping in and out etc then they understand - for now I'd rather do that and take the days as they come as the road ahead is unknown.
I didnt expect such a quick response today but feel better that these things are being put in place and we are at least in the system
the district matron has been in and given mum a once over and she needs some medication for her heart rate.
We also have a commode in the bedroom now and a bed and stand for the toilet is on order.
We dont have a care plan as yet as apparantly this depends on the paths taken from the scan ( if we get there!) and could become means tested depending on the outcome ............apparantly its more straight forward to sort after that , the matron is going to chase it up for us too and doesnt think in the circumstances we will be waiting long. I'm pretty sure if its means tested then my income will affect things but lets just see , i dont know you pay NI and Tax all your life and then they still take from you when you need some support back from the system
sister has gone to collect perscriptions as all the back and forth and phone calls have put me slightly behind on work , she didnt fancy it due to the snow but not much I can do about that ! shes also getting my script and my blood test referral forms. Typically she came this morning and the wheels came off on the day once she left.
Have to try and remember my sons 23rd birthday at the end of this week and valentines too !!
I also need to eat !!

  • i got mum comfortable in bed last night and went over to NM for a takeaway and a glass of vino.
There was some guilt doing so but I am so aware I need to step away and typically the evenings are the best time as she settles down for the night and doesn't need as much , Shes just woken up when I came home at 7am  so I've given her morphine dose and anti sickness pill in the hope that she will be able to eat later.
Going to use my new smoothie maker to make her an ensure shake today , they may be more inviting with some banana and raspberries in them and give her the calories she needs.
Money wise , I've no idea right now whats what but I know theres enough in the account to get through the month so when things are a bit more settled I'll take a look at whats going where

the sooner we get these things in place , the better - really want to avoid ending up in crisis
community matron and occ health have been so on all the ball its reassurring
sister is here now , shes better with the personal care as its her job so i've handed that over to her.
Need to look at getting a few odd jobs sorted out , leaking bathroom cloakroom and patio door not locking properly and also maybe buying some more bedding and pj's for mum

Take those few hours out whenever you can. You need to look after yourself too. Take care.

So sorry about your mums diagnosis and would just reiterate what others have said that you need to take time for yourself too and let carers and your sister help out too. At least you have a temporary escape at NMs.  Your poor mum though.  Macmillan are brilliant so take advantage of whatever help you can get.
