Car Hire (Alicante Airport) Only £4.50 per day? Can this be real? is it a scam?

Hi all
I am going to Benidorm next week. I fly into Alicante and then somehow need to get to Benidorm. I am more than capable of getting the bus, no problem with a Taxi, but why would I do this when I can get a car for literally £4.44 per day?
So, I checked a few comparison sites and even Ryanair's own site and they advertise cars for silly prices like £4.44 per day. I am quite savvy and didn't expect these prices to be realised when I'd checked through but to my surprise right up until the payment screen on more than one site these prices seem to be correct. So, I'm thinking...These companies may try and scam me and say I have caused scratches to the car etc so I add on full cover damage and the price is still a bargain.
Can this be so? Is it true? Will they honour these prices? Is there something glaringly obvious I am missing?
Thank you all.

Car hire prices in Spain are indeed very competitive, much cheaper than in UK. They will try to sell you "extra" insurance which is expensive.
Be careful which company you choose. I find Firefly reliable.

The old adage applies if it seems to be too good to be true then it probably is, I agree car hire in Spain tends to be cheaper than the UK but you only need to look at the 100,000s of reviews of Goldcar that is very prevalent in Spain that you will get scammed one way or another. Go for one of the big name suppliers like Avis, Hertz etc which have a better reputation but make sure that you thoroughly check over the car and make sure every visible scratch is identified and detailed on the hire documents, also take photographs.0

Avis charged me £16 for four days in Malta last year. No effort to upsell.0

My family had the same dilemma (except it is Palma Mallorca to resort) and stared incredulous at the screen as site after site all quoted the same price. I kept assuming there was a zero missing - but they can't all be wrong yeah? For us a private hire taxi was £135 and car hire for the whole week with damage waiver etc is £35. No brainer. Booking it this week through Ryanair site. So it is reputable and will use credit card for protection. You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -

The cheapo car rental queues are very long, why waste time there when you could be on the Alsa bus looking forward to a beer by the pool.
There is no insurance for a fuel scam.
Returning the car extra early to avoid the running out of checking over time is also a waste of time.
Unnecessary insurance claim administration is a pain that is worth avoiding.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Goldcar are a nightmare - long queues while they try and upsell to each customer, damage on car not noted on form, missing warning triangles and no one in the car park - so you need to go back to terminal if you do find something
Oh and cheapest rate doesn't include fuel £80 for a tankful and return empty or charge for out of hours service (£30 because pickup was after 8pm) Deposit taken from CC not just blocked
When you return there is no one to inspect it - so they can bill for damage 2 weeks later - thats my personal experience then ....
Just look at the horror stories on here
Personally I use Centauro - quick service minimal upselling, staff in car park (even at 1am) Full to Full, checked on return and signed off - even got free Sta nav last time.
Big circle (bigger than £2 coin) on form you sign any damage less than that doesnt count so they wont charge you for every stone chip
Cheaper than Hertz etc £6 a day for a Fiesta0
