However, with this board in particular, it seems people just change their username, or simply claim after the event, they were wise and got out, or in, just at the best possible time. It's always with the benefit of hindsight though.
At least they are honest with themselves and each other.
Secondly, I haven't seen the disdain and hatred of people who have less than others over there. This idea that if you don't have piles of money, you are a loser, scum, or worse. Something which really drags this place down.
Honest with themselvess and each other?!? How many times has TheCountOfNowhere been moving to a castle in France???
And let us not forget the sheer jealous hatred and disdain that they have for hard-working families knuckling down and getting on with life, simply because they own a house. Case in point is this thread where a couple of old codgers down on their luck are free game to the heartless goons:

It's time you woke up and smelt the coffee.
By the way, what is your current Crash Breakeven Percentage now?0 -

MSE is about thoughtful stewardship of money, thinking ahead and getting as far as possible the same things for less. In aggregate, the MSE philosophy is that if you're sensible in the day to day decisions about small amounts of money, you will acquire good habits around the big ones, and you will inexorably accumulate wealth in spite of yourself.
HPC in contrast could not disagree more. That site exhorts its readers to speculate in the price of the roof over their heads, and to rent for decades in expectation of a price crash that will not begin to refund the cost of all that renting even if it ever occurred. It regards people who grit their teeth and buy as stupid sheeple; it despises day to day economies because what's the point when lizards at the Bank of England literally want to to make everyone poor and then kill them; and so on. It sends its myrmidons out to other sites - Mumsnet, the Telegraph comment pages, this place - to spread its nonsense, it cheers bad news because the readership thinks recessions will cost other people their jobs and make houses cheap, and are thus good. It regards buying Bitcoin as a better call than buying a house and living in it.
It's essentially the west versus the USSR - only one opinion is tolerated, and anyone who voices any contrary sentiment is simply silenced.
Ask yourself how many people have benefited financially from the advice offered here, and then ask yourself the same of HPC. It is basically a force for ill, and as one or two of its victims have noticed, it makes you poorer.
They are mostly just lost young men dont vilify them bring them into the fold*. Most people are far more malleable than they realize. As the saying goes you are the average of your three best friends.
The problem with that site is it is so biased that all the posters are surrounded by idiots and the worst kind of idiots smart idiots who sound coherent if not challenged and there they are not challenged.
*because the alternative is lost young men become angry lost young men who want to burn the system down so from its ashes they may arise as something other than the bottom of society.0 -
At least you're not bitter about it.
WP is a smart man and writes well but he often comes across as a caricature of a far right tory which at times weakens his positions and arguments imo
The HPC crew are the dark side of the internet. Angry young (and now plenty of not so young) men who get together and convince each other that they are smart and special and the world owes them a good life just because of that. If they were just a little smarter and a little more grown up they would stop with the silly hpc nonsense and try to better their lives financially and in every other way
As I keep saying whats better spend 10,000 hours !!!!!ing in a confirmation bias cave of bitterness and loss hoping for a hpc which marginally improves your finances or spend 10,000 hours becoming a master of something which will improve your finances and life a hell of a lot more.
Even if you expect a hpc the answer is not to cross your fingers and wait, the answer is to get a job paying just 3-4k more and that would make you just as well off as a 30% HPC one is a silly risky gamble the other is certain.
I suppose I feel sorry for them because I know I could be one of them
Its bad for them and society the worst thing is a smart bitter man.
The only saving grace of hpc is it acts as a zoo for smart bitter men they are on there 50 hours a week patting each other on their backs rather than doing something more destructive. (although recruiting new believes converts is in itself a destructive act)0 -

I'm still not sure what the purpose of HPC is, they seem to enjoy the misery of others and hope the entire economy and banking system come crashing down.
All so they can buy a house, which they all say they don't want to do.Started out with nothing, still got most of it left.0 -
The HPC property incels are in many cases just Side B of the record that is playing constantly here.
How you can read this board and think that people without money aren't sneered at and looked down upon, I don't know.
Both of these benighted parts of the internet are full of self obsessed curtain twitchers who are a fundamental testament to everything that's wrong with Britain's miserable obsession with making property unaffordable and refusing to allow renters to feel like they have a home.
So laugh it up MSE, the "!!!!!s" you are all poking fun at over there are just you with less money.0 -
Well considering that the HPC goon central website, and all its palpable hatred for hard-working home-owning families, came before this one, you cannot blame posters on here responding in kind at all the sick, bitter and twisted vitriol that is spewed forth from that website. What people on here find most galling of all is the utterly disgusting glee that these rent forever loosers wallow in of wishing ill to anyone and everyone simply for the owning a home.0

Oh yes, the apex of right wing virtue signalling, the venerated "hard working family."
Because as long as you're a hard toiling child making conservative voting citizen then you're in the club and may be considered a proper person.
Don't dare to question your place in the world, ask why many of the wealthiest people in the nation don't appear to have done anything that looks like a day's work in their life, and don't ever think that having a home may be obtained with anything other than 8 decades of compliance.
Don't be sick, old, disabled, homeless, mentally ill, vulnerable or a single parent, because you'll get exactly what you deserve in Tory Britain. Nothing.0 -
why many of the wealthiest people in the nation don't appear to have done anything that looks like a day's work in their life
This may be how it appears, however many people who've done well for themselves (chucknorris) as an example, worked their nuts off in earlier years to acheive what they have. This is called investing in your future.
What may appear to some, is not the full truth.Don't be sick, old, disabled, homeless, mentally ill, vulnerable or a single parent, because you'll get exactly what you deserve in Tory Britain. Nothing.
Let's get some facts (ok one anecdote but applies to many).
Our parents have lived a long time, MIL has dimentia.
Whilst living at home they got - attendance allowance, carers allowance and free visits from carers as required.
Hospital was free, nursing care was free, precscriptions were free.
What more do you think a society should provide for the sick/old/disabled?0 -

The majority on here are leveraged up to the eyeballs, they really don`t want interest rate hikes. It is going to be really funny if something causes a rate spike. My money is on EZ woes getting out of control.0
