Thanks BB, definitely a good point well made! That recipe sounds great. Re cheaply available peppers - I have discovered frozen peppers for cooking - so much cheaper!!
The nursery costs were fine thankfully, it was just a regular invoice, even though a notification had gone out on the app about late fees. I'm hoping they gave us the benefit of the doubt as it was something that went wrong at the voucher company website and they had the majority of the payment by direct debit in the usual manner. I've now got the voucher company to put it on a regular payment so now all I need to do is keep an eye out for the automated email saying it has gone out :D

Oh I love jack's recipes! Co incidentally, the goulash was tea last night. It's really handy for freezing and just reheating after work/nursery. I've made a few alterations in that I am generous with the Marmite and smoked paprika. I absolutely love smoked paprika and it goes in almost everything at the moment.
Have you tried the 'come to bed parmigiana'? It's amazing :T especially with passata instead of chopped tomatoes. I'm not one for cooking bits and pieces separately, I just bung it all in one pan and it's fine :rotfl:
I'm trying to expand my repertoire at the moment, so have been digging through my cookbooks to try and put a new recipe in each week. Tonight is a new curry recipe as DH is unusually on a 9-5 instead of his scheduled 2-9 :T
  • Just popping in to say hi :j. How are the plans going?

    Hi back Glenda
    Welcome to my diary :T

Up and down to be honest. The extra £250 I had set aside to be an extra op has had to be transferred into the current account, lest we end up horribly overdrawn. An expensive month as we had a few fairly expensive things to pay for.

I've got the usual £200 earmarked for my next op, which will technically be for may, but out of my pay on Friday. When DH's goes in on Tuesday, I shall set aside an extra £250 but not op it until I know that we won't need it, so in the same way I did this month.

There is scope for a bit more, but I am in desperate need of some work clothes. Most of my dresses are 'suit-y' lined dresses without sleeves, which I bought for my first professional job  so I am now wanting some with sleeves (I'm aging [STRIKE] and flabbier than my younger days[/STRIKE]) and our office get so hot.

I'm making an effort to reduce a few of our household expenses. I have been converted to online shopping for food now that I'm back at work full time. I can have it delivered when DS is in bed and minimise DH wandered around Tesco with an "ooh that looks nice!" approach, win-win!
Have just done our month shop, £110 but we are out of everything... Washing powder, toilet rolls, shampoo, all the tins - the works! So really the only things we will need to top up is milk and fruit, possibly veg for the things that don't come frozen.
I'm doing more batch cooking again now that DS is sleeping through-ish. Or at least sleeping reliably through an evening so I'm hoping to keep it below £150.
DD also needs some lightweight sleeping bags, as his are all winter thickness and he's a little hot thing at the best of times. Instead of heading straight to Mothercare/m&s etc, I'm watching a few on eBay. Although competition is stiff! :o

For those that like veggie recipes, have you seen minimalist baker? Delicious recipes buy occasionally odd ingredients as it's an American blog [STRIKE]and at times, an unacceptable lack of carbs[/STRIKE]

On another winning point, I was umming and arring over buying the new Miguel Barclay book - vegan £1 meals, when all is f a sudden, it was 99p on Kindle :money: :T

Regular overpayment of £200 made :T

Let's see what I can scavenge from the budget in general this month

On the plus side, a free day out tomorrow with sister on their family pass :T just going to cost me picnic stuff and petrol there for about an hour's journey each way.

Wahey, yesterday's OP is showing online already and has taken us into the 215's :j
Regular payment is due out Tuesday and will leave us at about 215,010! Before interest ruins it of course :D
  • Congrats on the OPs - great progress! I must dig out some new veggie recipes, my lot are inveterate carnivores but meat is expensive. I am aiming for a paltry one meat-free meal a week at the moment :o.

Well done on being in the 215s and boo to interest of course but its great when those OPs reduce the amount of that too.

Hope you enjoyed your family day out y'day

Glenda - there are some really tasty veggie recipes about. DH is a meat eater but has no desire to eat it at home. We saved a fortune since he chose to stop bothering adding meat to his!
Teapot - we did thanks. Lovely weather and spending time with family is the best thing ever. Looking forward to when DS will be running around after his cousins :)
