Hi,
Bought some redex for my focus, but it has an anti syphon system and can't get the bottle contents in the tank. Bought a funnel, but the silver cap on the petrol hole is locked.
Anyone advise how I can do this please?
Thanks

Presumably the insertion of the filler nozzle opens things up. You need a piece of plastic pipe of filler nozzle diameter to open it and then pour the Redex through the pipe. Incidentally, I haven't heard anything about Redex for decades ...is it compatible with catalytic converters?0

Thanks will try and not surr will have to loom into this also.0

Capless fuel filler ? If so use the little plastic funnel thing that is (or should be) in the boot0

Just pretend you've added the Redex. You'll never know the difference.0

I thought Redex had gone when we stopped whipping the head off for a decoke every year!
Shame about the CAT as well, stops me putting a squirt of Castrol R in the tank for added perfume. Lawnmower loves it though.Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -

Yes. Go to your FORD dealership and get the proper funnel from them. You CANNOT use a generic funnel, you have to use one that is exactly the same external diameter of a petrol or diesel pump nozzle. This is because Ford use a filler neck designed so you can't accidentally put diesel in a petrol or petrol in a diesel so it will only open the flap with the correct sized funnel.
You want to buy one anyway because if you ever run out of fuel without it you're knackered for using a petrol can.
Good news is they seem to always have them on stock and they're very cheap. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If you cant add it, and you still want the added 'cleaning & performance' boost that comes with RedX, just use a premium fuel like Shell V-Power instead. It's meant to do a similar sort of thing.
There are hundreds of debates about if these premium fuels actually make a difference. Personally I use Shell V Power in my Seat Ibiza (diesel ecomotoive) and I do notice a cleaner running engine and MPG. And the difference in tank is about £5 compared to 'regular' diesel - similar cost to a bottle of RedX.
Now I could just be seeing results but from my comparisons i think it works. But anyway if it does keep my engine clearer and helps with any potential DPF issues I'm all for that! Better than £100-1000s in repairs.
Could think of worse ways to spend a fiver!0 -

It doesn't help with DPF issues at all. The amount of dirt it also removes from things like valves is negligible and once your fuel system is clean there's no point sticking more cleaning additive in it. You only need to use something like Redex once every couple of years or so, despite what they say. You could achieve the same result by just adding a small amount of kerosine to a fill up every so often as that is the main active ingredient in almost every product of this type.
Fuels like V-Power merely empty people's wallets. Any benefits with MPG there MAY be are due to the higher octane rating of the fuel, not the additives. You may as well top up with Tesco 99 RON. When it comes to diesel engines THERE ARE NO BENEFITS AT ALL TO PERFORMANCE AND MPG. In fact you'd notice more power in a diesel if you used 100% vegetable oil due to its higher calorific value over pump diesel but you would actually see a decrease in MPG of around 10%.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Using cleaner burning Shell V-Power diesel does reduce the frequency of DPF regenerations.
I personally use nothing else in my vehicles.0 -
