Okay break it break it up, the way i view this is if i say i'll give you a grand + 500 quid, i'm sure you would expect £1500 not just a grand, old fashioned i might be but still hold the old maths degree.

Correct. Which is why when the trader says I want £x + vat they are expecting 20% more and not just £x.

It's obvious the plus sign is including vat, so he thinks vat is included!
    I do think it's included!:T

But your comment below contradicts this? Otherwise what you are saying is that the +500 is included in the 1000?

    I'm assuming this is humorous?

If you do struggle with the practical application of maths, most libraries run numeracy classes that cover exactly this kind of thing. There's no shame on brushing up on your knowledge.

Scrub that, OP and Spender are blatantly the same person. Look at their other threads...

    Please do elaborate!
You are right, there was was no contradiction, however the assumption was wrong. Stating something is "£xxx + vat" clearly indicates that VAT is to be added to £xxx.

If OP was a consumer then he should have been given the total price inclusive of any taxes as per the Consumer Contract Regulations (regardless of whether its for goods or services).

But fwiw, I think £x + vat is pretty clear that the price is £x plus vat and really don't understand why anyone would interpret that to mean inclusive of vat.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

Ahh so if i purchase a block of cheese for £2.50 inc p&p, i would expect this means free delivery :rotfl:.

I am not understanding a word either of them are saying. Every post seems to contradict the last.
