We cut a hole in the ceiling and checked if the wall was supporting any beams.

It wasnt so we knocked it down!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

It's easy to tell when a wall is definitely supporting, it isn't easy to tell that it isn't. Especially when you have an OP like this one who needs guiding through the most basic areas where help is available widely for free. Not a good person to encourage to demolish anything.

You're misunderstanding me. If it's obvious, it's obvious. You need a structural engineer. If it isn't obvious you still need a structural engineer.

So the answer is to employ a structural engineer.

Is it just me or does anyone think a structural engineer may be required for this one?

Defeats the whole purpose of this money saving expert site. Structural engineers sounds expensive just for a small partition wall lol.

So what value do you put on your safety when you undertake the work? Or if you instruct labour to do the work where is your duty of care? Or if it is a bodge and scarper property aimed at a quick re-sale what value do you place on the future owners if cracking up occurs?

Save money by knocking down something and leaving your house structurally unsound? That isn't saving money.

And this is the house three years later.

Someone wasn't insured as a result of what happened because if it had been, it wouldn't have been left/moving at snail's pace for such a long time. I've been through the planning documents and I have a good idea of why one side of that house collapsed and it had everything to do with structural walls.

Money saving is also teaching people the way to avoid buying cheap and paying dear. Make good decisions and buy once.

We're not here to design your kitchen for you from scratch or stand in for a properly qualified engineer who has actually seen your house. They're unreasonable expectations. We will guide you in the right direction.

A cheap (free) idea. Ask your neighbours, see if any of them have had it done.
That!!!8217;s what I did when I was curious, first I asked neighbours. I discovered the only others who had taken that portion of wall away had needed rsjs so I knew it was load bearing.
Don!!!8217;t take it as definite it!!!8217;s not load bearing, but the chances are, if it is, your neighbours will be able to confirm.
