Old Style Daily Monday 23rd April 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. Th

    Morning All

Sounds like a productive day Holly.
Hugs silver oldie, must be difficult for you.

The rain cleared up yesterday afternoon so I spent a busy couple of hours in the garden, put up some trellis on the fence ready for the sweet peas to climb up, also dug up the grass under the fence. All we need is the sunshine and it'll look lovely!

Managed to get some new work trousers yesterday, just one pair but it's a start. Also bought some gardening stuff from Wilkos, including a ceramic pot and everything you need to grow basil for £2, really good prices in there.

A shiny new week awaits, hope there are no surprises! Take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Judi - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, clear sky with sun coming up, drying up underfoot, although still laying water and gardens are still wet, but it rained nearly all Saturday night. I have a large amount of washing to peg out on the line, I'll do that shortly.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

We stopped and had lunch at a lovely pub that mum and dad have used in the past when going down south. We stopped for a late lunch on Friday and then Sunday lunch yesterday - we all had roast beef and it was delicious. The weekend was a nice time away, but just hi-lights how bad mum's health is and how frail she has become with the dementia galloping along at a scary rate. We did manage to get out and about whilst at sis's and I it was nice for mum and dad to spend some time with sis and her family - without us taking them/someone else taking them it's highly unlikely they'll be able to go anymore due to mum needing so much attention and it's now to far for dad to drive and look after mum. I'm hoping that now we've taken them, my other sis or bro will take them also, (we'd already arranged to go for the 4 days, if we didn't take them they wouldn't get any kind of holiday, so arranged to take them too). I'm not holding my breath on that one though.

Dinner tonight is likely to be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, as I need to stop at SM on the way home from work to get supplies, although the boys did pick up a few bits yesterday morning. Back to work today, hoping for a busy day, so the day passes quickly.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks for the early kick off JUDI. Hope you got back to sleep again. I was rudely awakened at 5.00 by what I thought (in my half comatosed state) was someone drilling outside. It was a giant bee buzzing right next to my head on the pillow!! I have never jumped out of bed so fast! It flew off noisily when I alarmed it and is hiding somewhere in the bedroom. A search will resume when Mr TA gets up.

I am preparing myself mentally for another day of banging and drilling as both the installers and electrician are due back today. There still seems to be an awful lot left to do. DS can't understand why they are taking so long. Nor can we really, especially as they are working flat out all day when they are here. I think I am now getting used to living in squalor and cleaning again will come hard!

Not a lot planned for today, yet another day of being housebound and making endless cups of tea & coffee! I must get today's provisions out of the freezer before they arrive, otherwise I won't get out of the door into the garage. Can't do with going hungry!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for those wanting/needing them. Ouch LW I hope you are ok after your tumble. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone.

I had a very early night yesterday so have caught up on the missed sleep I hope. As most of the day and evening was very wet I don't suppose I missed much.

Today I'm working first thing and th3n I need to do some online banking to move monies around to pay for the new car. My bank had a planned outage from Friday until yesterday evening.

There's plenty of food left over from the weekend to use up. I'm going back down to Glasgow on Wednesday this week. Life is just as busy as when I was working full time!

No sunshine outside though I've still got plenty inside me. Happy Monday to all.

    Morning all

It looks like a nice sunny day here although its meant to be a lot colder, we had a bbq last night as well but it turned very chilly while sitting there so we came in fairly quickly, I had bought a pineapple so I cut that up and drizzled with maple syrup and wrapped it in foil and cooked it on the bbq, we had it with vanilla ice cream and it was delish :j

Off to work today which should be quiet although its a busy client day so we will find something to do.

I got some mince out of the freezer and its dd's turn to cook so we will have tacos which will be nice.

I have my lunch packed for work with left over salads and a piece of chicken.

    Have good days all xx

Morning all, I had a lie-in until 6.11 precisely. I'd woken at 2 and again at 4 but managed to go back to sleep so quite pleased with myself (how silly to congratulate self for sleeping though).

Today I want to do hard floor mopping and Hoover the bedrooms, and also go to H*me B*again which is the only place that seems to sell the shampoo and conditioner tgat I like best and even then, not all the time. I bought 2 of each the other week and that was all they had so I will check out another and also have a nose in the M#S outlet.

Holly that sounds like a good deal with Virgin.

TA I hope the end is in sight, aLlandudno jobs seem to take a lot longer than you hope, don't they. And produce a lot if mess.

LW hope you are OK after your fall.

Judi, what a horrid dream. Does anyone ever remember good dreams? I only remember nightmares.

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Good morning all
Judi, thank you for starting us off, hope you got back to sleep.

Yesterday I made a practice birthday cake for DH's birthday next month. Found I had large eggs, need medium not too much of a problem, run out of SR flour so had to use plain and baking powder and my kitchen scales have died. Still it was edible.

The lift at mother's care home is not working, they are waiting for part, so she's stuck in her room. They say she is refusing to get out of bed, can't blame her. Being on her own most of the day can't be good, but for the last three visits she has refused to talk to me, not sure what to do, will phone them later.

Hope you all have a good day
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.
  • Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

I woke just after midnight, it was after 4am when I dropped off, up at eight, so feeling a bit blerg, doubtless I will sleep tonight.

It is sunny, have a load in the washer as tomorrow and wednesday have been forecast to be wet, a lot cooler although I have not put the heating back on, extra jumpers from now on unless its really icy.

OH wants to finish putting the preservative on the fence, I doubt O will get out this morning, have a couple of jobs to do in the house.

I sorted out a way to use weed killer, cut the bottom from a lemonade bottle, then cut about 5inches up, Push it over the weed and spray straight down, stops it going onto the surrounding plants. Will see how well it works.

Chicken salad fro supper tonight, not sure about dessert though.

    Morning everyone,

Late start for me as had a bad night and was up for several hours reading on the sofa, my tinnitus was driving me crazy and I just couldn’t sleep :(
Today is cloudy and much colder after a warm few days, much more in line with April but we have been a tad spoilt lately.
I need to get into town for a few birthday cards and my beloved needs some more of his drops from the opticians, we could also do with some more salady bits etc. Then it’s over to see my lovely Lu.
Ouch on the fall LW healing vibes duly sent x

Hugs to all poorlies and those with worries, have a good day all x

TA, we bought a German kitchen when we replaced ours, the fitters came with it and fitted it, the appliances and the sink in less than a day (the kitchen is about 11'x18'. We then had to wait for the worktop because it's granite and they had to do a template when the cupboards and appliances were installed.

Holly, I did manage to do a bit of weeding in short bursts and managed not to ache last night.

Today is a red letter day. We're off to the Harry Potter studios, one of my birthday gifts. It probably sounds a bit strange in a 60 year old but I'm a fan, mainly because I picked up the first book for DS over 20 years ago before they were famous. I was desperate for him to start reading properly but he wasn't interested, then one day when he was off school ill he picked up Harry Potter and that was it, he realised how much pleasure you can get from reading and he never looked back.
