Evening all. Quick update: yesterday I spent €6.10 on half a kilo of excellent asparagus that I couldn't walk away from. I had some this morning for breakfast roasted with strips of bacon. This was a good decision all around.
Today was a NSD for groceries. Tomorrow evening we'll be meeting some friends for dinner. This was recently sprung on us since the person is visiting from out of town and is gathering a bunch of friends together. I have a feeling tomorrow will be a NSD instead of the trip to Lidl I planned. I can push the Lidl trip to Thursday morning and buy bananas, stock up on pasta, and a few other things. I'm going to try limiting myself to €25 or so.
TOTALS SO FAR:
7 / 10 NSD
€118.73 / €400.00
For my lunch tomorrow, I think I'll take the leftover steak along with some roasted asparagus and a bunch of blueberries. This is to avoid buying lunch in the cafe downstairs. I'm really trying to avoid spending money now because I just spontaneously decided to join a girls' trip to France this coming Monday! I'll be gone Monday to Friday evening or Saturday morning and we'll be staying at the vacation house of one of the other women's parents. So, that will be free, thankfully. It'll just be transportation and food to pay for while there. Need to buy a new swim suit though. I'll spend some time tomorrow rearranging my finances to see how to pay for this properly without mentally dipping into too many pots.0 -
NSD yesterday, but today I've added £8 to the grocery budget (bread, apples, bananas, fresh peas) and a whopping £87.64 to the bulk-buy purse: flour in 3 varieties from the mill, a sack of oats, and a few other odds & sods from Real Foods online, who do the best jumbo oats. I shan't be going to the county town market tomorrow, as Mum has a hospital test on Friday so I'm going down then. Hence stocking up on fruit locally today... The freezer will keep us going until the weekend!Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Another £23.42 top up shop at Mr Ts so I've virtually used up the £300 budget. Although DD gave me a tenner back for buying stuff for her and then I did a cheeky fb sale today - just a few quid - but every little helps so I've heard
Got around £15 in my purse to last the week - just need a few Aldi veggies for my veggie curry and salad bits as we've got lots of choices in the cupboard. MrSS had a money transfer of just over £40 onto the food cash card, so that will do for next week and then it will be payday.
Not a bad month all round considering. Will be over the £300 but not a lot

This asparagus I bought on Monday is absolutely delicious. I just had some for lunch with the leftover bits of steak.
Question: is there something I can do with bottom ends of the asparagus that you snap off? Can I add them to a stock and pur!e it into a green soup? Also, can I do the same with some wilting lamb's lettuce?
Please and thank you.0 -
@JingsMyBucket , I think you will find them too woody/fibrous.
Would you Adam and Eve it, went to Morries got 2 more coffee for friends marked on fixture £4, and on website charged £6.47, after discussing this earlier in the week on here, didn`t look at receipt till home, aaarrrgghh, no answer on phone so emailed customer service, total grocery spends for myself £5.30, I picked up £40 in Amazon vouchers to get my total over £50 and machine wouldn`t accept it, vouchers don`t count, they do when I get the email spend £40/50 and get extra points, never mind waiting on customer service now.
P.S. car passed MOT yesterday no problems phew.Do I need it or just want it.0 -

The burger pie ended up a disaster, as i should have pre grilled the burgers. The pastry was soggy so had to be recooked; but together the combination works. I don't know whether it was doing it in my Visicook, or using a frozen vegan burger - most recipes call for mince.
Anyways, this week i am trying Cajun rice; i have already precooked the rice in the pressure cooker after i got in from college ( about an hour ago). As i got off early today, i got off the bus by the big Tesco, and went in for some vegan mince. I also ended up getting two other vegan items on the 3 for £4 offer, a big bottle of soy sauce (as using alot lately making Pad Thai) some Trex, Apples and Reggae Reggae. Oh, and a bag, as i didn't have one on me. ( HAd intended to go straight home).

Yay for the car passing pamsdish! Our failed on 5(!) things this year, but luckily DH managed to fix them all for about £50. I hate MOT time!
Spent £1.10 at the corner shop yesterday on some yellow sticker offers and a treat for me and the youngest. Got some carrots for 10p that have been made into a carrot cake traybake and frozen in portions for DHs lunch box. Did a main shop today for £25.04 which should be enough until net Wednesday, then I have £29.95 left for the last shop of the month. Should be able to double up on a few meals this week and freeze the extra for the week after to make it easier to stick to budget next Wednesday when it'll be 9 days before the next shop0
