I'm sitting here in tears because of Scottish Power and Eon - I don't know where to turn.

I literally don't know where to turn and I'm so angry that I'm actually in tears of rage and frustration.

I wish I'd never listened to Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert. Changing suppliers to save a few quid has been a nightmare and not worth it at all. I'm now scared about ending up with no gas and electric and being pursued by debt collectors.

September 2017: I'm at the end of my fixed tariff with Scottish Power. Following Martin Lewis' advice, I compare deals and it appears I'd be £100 better off per year with Eon. I click the button and am promised a smooth switch-over.

Over the next few weeks, it transpires (after hours and hours of phone-calls, confusion, wrong bills and nasty letters plus fed up neighbours) that:
- Although I live at Block 5, Flat 6, Eon have tried to take over the gas supply of Block 6, Flat 5 AND Block 5, Flat 4 whilst still billing me too.
- Scottish Power believe THEY are still supplying me gas and are also billing me.

I have tried tweeting, emailing, phoning and now I have emails and letters building up chasing me for money for various accounts and addresses which are nothing even to do with me.

All I want is to pay my monthly direct debit for my gas and electric and be done with it.

I'm expecting the power to be cut off any day now. I don't even know who is supplying it or who I should be paying. I can't pay all these accounts. Eon and Scottish Power keep blaming each other. I even contacted Ofgem but they were no help.

No-one is listening and I'm really upset. I know there are worse things going on in the world but I've lost whole evenings of my life trying to sort this out and get nowhere. I'm worried about ending up with a bad credit score too for not paying all these bills.

Thanks for listening to this cry for help!

    1. Find out who your actual supplier is

    https://www.ukpower.co.uk/who-supplies-my-gas-and-electricity

    2. Send Eon a written complaint - don't bother phoning, you will get nowhere - and head your letter CO(MPLAINT in BIG BOLD letters detailing your problems and tell them you want all accounts not relevant to your property closed without penalty and the correct account for your own property backdated to the day of the switch at the correct tariff you agreed to at switch.

When you post ask Post Office for proof of postage.

Keep a record of the date you sent the letter.

If, after 8 weeks they have still not sorted things out escalate to the energy ombudsman.

Suppliers will not cut off your supply. Its very rare they do that. Only in cases such as persistent energy theft, at least 3 times, will they do that, mores the pity.
I would stop the direct debit with Scottish Power for a start and concentrate on getting Eon to bill your meter with the correct serial number.
Possibly they have had one of their meter readers round who has been in the meter room and got the wrong meter. That is assuming you have been reading the correct meter in the first place.
Its easily done getting the wrong meter with flats and meter rooms with meters all labeled with plot numbers or with tenants putting their own label on which meter is theirs .
As D_M_E says, give them the threat of the Energy Ombudsman to get Eon to concentrate on correct billing. It will cost them dearly if this go s to the EO.

Good morning Missko, please don't be upset I'm sure we can help get this sorted out for you.

I agree with D_M_E you need to get this raised as a complaint as soon as possible.

I would ask you to get all of your meter details and meter reads, from your meters, not from the bills might be worth taking a picture as well.

This could well be a case of crossed meters and an Erroneous Transfer, but it needs looking in to in detail.

We need to get you in contact with the Erroneous Transfer department first, they're the ones that deal with supplies that have been taken in error, or for the wrong address.

The quickest way to get through to them is to ring, make it clear you want to raise a complaint with the first person you speak to. They need to open this complaint from the first date that you contacted us about this.

You'll then be put through to a complaints manager, they will investigate the accounts and work to get a resolution to you. If you're still not happy with how the complaint is being handled, ask for it to be referred to our Complaints Review section. They'll look again at what's gone before from both your point of view and ours. At this stage, if you're still unhappy with what's happened, you can go to the Energy Ombudsman for an independent assessment. The Ombudsman's decision is binding on us but not on you. Our Reviewers will let you have a Final Resolution Offer letter to help when you go to the Ombudsman.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for trying to help me.

I'm still getting nowhere. Both Eon and Scottish Power insist they are my gas supplier.

I have to say Islam from Eon was extremely rude on the phone today. He kept on talking over me and was laughing at me saying Scottish Power had NEVER supplied me - it had been the Co-op these past 12 years! He also told me that I was the rude one and that I was using "ammunition" against him. "Sneering" was the best way to describe his tone.

It seems to be something to do with the way the flats in my block are numbered but no-one can figure it out.

I simply cannot pay both Scottish Power and Eon's bills. Both just keep blaming each other and I don't see a way out of this unless one tries to cut me off but I still have gas...then we will know who actually is supplying it.

I just want someone sensible to work out what has gone wrong and fix it.

Thank goodness I'm not elderly, I don't know how they must cope.

Did you ask to speak to a complaints manager as suggested?
