XP or Vista?

just got a new laptop 4 weeks ago after a heck of a search to find XP at no additional charge(am doing a Uni course and some of their software is not Vista compatable). I THINK it's Dell who will downgrade you for £45, but their £51 delivery charge was too much for me. Try Dabs, they have a good selection, or order through BT.com ( they own Dabs anyway) and delivery is free and VERY fast.In giving

Well, I#d say go with Vista. I've had no issues with it yet. and have been runnign ti since January. My printer is at least 9 years old, Vista detected it straight away. All of my other hardware works with i. I haven't loaded many games but the ones i have work fine, even Risk II which is years old. The only freeware I know of that doesn't work are a couple of firewalls. Lots of others freeware programs work, even ones which are no longer supported.
There really is a lot of rubbish spouted about Vista, I'm not a big fan of Microsoft but IMO Vista has been their best home OS release. Just think back to some of the issues when XP was released.
Having said that it does need a good spec machine to run and if their may be issues with using it to connect to work then stick with XP.It's my problem, it's my problem

Had Vista pretty much since it came out, hated it at first but got used to it after a week or so, and now I much prefer it tbh. It does still have some bugs and the search function is annoying, but I wouldn't go back now. The only thing I think I have had to replace is my webcam which was incompatible and had no vista drivers available. If it's going to be so much of a hassle with the hub and work I'd stick with XP though, the headache of that for me would be far worse than not upgrading for a while.Fr. Vista is fine. The people doing the whinging, especially the one who said I was rude because I had the audacity to actually post real facts, fall into three categories.
1) Those who are too thick to go to the support section of the stuff they're using and download updates/drivers.
2) Those who are too thick to make sure their hardware is supported.
3) Those who just want something to moan about.
If you want to go back to XP, you'll need to buy a full retail version if you can find one which'll set you back well over £100. But you won't need to.0 -

i dont think people leave there opinions on here, to then be told they are thick, not everybody knows everything about everything, if we did there would be no need for forums like this would there, the poster asked a question, based on there experiances, just because you seem to have had no problems running vista does not mean other wont have problems, and it certainly dont make them thick, like i said i instaled vista on my machine, and have a problem with the bt homehub, but that seems to be a common problem, it certainly has not put me off vista, i think it is far better than xp, and advised poster to go for xp, i just think manners would be nice, you never know, there maybe one day when there is something you dont know, and you will need the advice of the kind people on this forum. This message is not meant to antagonise you in any way, just pointing out, everybody has there own opinions, thanks Dave.:beer:Take every day as it comes!!0 -

look as Spaceman5 said people are purely giving their experience/ opinion. So classing people as 'thick' i feel doesn't do justice for people posting their oppinons0 -
Stick with XP, you can always change to Vista when MS have sorted things out with drivers etc. Too much bad press with Vista for a brand new OS.0

Microsoft can't sort the drivers, the manufacturers of the devices with drivers that do not work with Vista need to sort them out.
What bad press is Vista getting, can you give some specific examples of problems? There are a lot of people knocking Vista but there don't seem to be many concrete examples of problems with it.It's my problem, it's my problem
