So this is my list of additional spends that I am anticipating in June. I may well be adding to them if any thing comes up but I'm going to post them weekly to remind me that I have no room for slacking
- 3 x Brighton weekends -additonal £40 and petrol
- DS coming home for summer- addtional food, electricity, petrol (everything)
- Lots of traveling - petrol
- [STRIKE]funeral - have no appropriate shoes (going to scour the 2nd hand shops)[/STRIKE]got some off DD
- [STRIKE]Opticians - new glasses[/STRIKE] £50
- Week off work due to family stuff - reduced income
- moisturiser - used my bday money last time as I tried Origins
- Mattress for DS as he has said he will sleep in the lounge so I can stay in his bedroom (he can then use the mattress at when he goes back in Sept)
- One of my bezzies 50th Bday budget of £30
- electric toothbrush is dying, permanently on charge - not sure it will last the month
Scores on the Doors Today:
Spent Today/Spent This Month/Monthly Budget- £72.24/£103.36/£225 food
- £15.10/£15.10/£25 stockpot
- £0/£8.52/£60 kids
- £0/£3.64/£40 misc
- £20/£30/£85 petrol
- £0/10.00/£20 me
- £25/25/£25 replacement pot (glasses)
- £25/£25/£800 contingency pot (glasses)
- £0.66/£2.84 OP
- £1.18/£6.65 electricity
- £10.68 Daily Available Spend (down £3.74)
Big food shop today £87.34 in total including stockpot. Fridge is bursting, just hope nothing goes off. Bought a couple of things I wouldnt normally buy that were on offer for DD (half price GF pizza bases and some vegan mozzarella).
Bought the cheapest glasses I could get in the shop. I probably could have got them cheaper on line as DH bought his from an internet based company, but there are certain things I like to buy in person so I can return them if there are any problems.

Fabulous thread - nothing to add you seem to have it all under control in a tree huggingly ferocious fundamentally sorted sort of way
Love brighton - DD2is there at Uni and I grew up 10 miles West
Have you tried the investment boards on here - plenty of seriously money savvy people might be able to help you understand what might be done to secure you income or change the investment profile as your needs change with kids leaving school/uniI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

Thanks M88M - I do like the phrase 'tree huggingly ferocious'
When I started my first diary I was saving to buy a flat, it was going to be a cash purchase as I wasn't able to get a mortgage so I started off on the savings & investments board. I think I lasted all of 6 posts before I decided it was rather a harsh and scary place to be and plonked myself on the more homely MFW board. I am reading a lot of the threads on there and recognise that I need to diversify a bit more. My dads also given me the details of an IFA who I may contact for some general advice. I think my biggest stumbling block is being so risk adverse. knowing what what needs to be done isn't too difficult with some solid research and removing the jargon investing hides behind, it's taking the first steps that is the hardest.
Thanks for dropping by

NSD number 2 for me, which must mean I've worked all day!
I had to drag myself kicking and screaming this morning just to do 30 minutes of yoga - I was hardly heading out to battle so I don't know why I protest-uth so much.
I've been reading the Frugglewoods blog again recently. I started it a couple of years ago then drifted away. She writes some poignant pieces examining our attitudes to money, consumerism and values. The Moneyless Man is another great book as is No Impact Man and Notes from a Blue Bike.
I suppose the message that runs through out each is not so much about debt but the joys of Simplicity in Life, how we impact our environment and not allowing ourselves to be slave to the Corporations which shackle us to the wheel of consumerism. This in turn relates to debt as we can free ourselves by changing our mentality and attitudes towards the things we think we need to buy.
My journey started with me wanting to save money many years ago when my husband walked out on me and my young children and I was left not knowing what lay ahead financially. Along that journey I found, frugalism, minimimalism and simplicity which are now so ingrained in me that I couldn't imagine living in any other way. If my former self could have seen the future me in my 2 bedrooms flat, sleeping on the sofa, eating my daily porridge and Dahl in my one of 2 pairs of jeans I suspect she would have been gobsmacked. But I can honestly say that I am, despite all the emotional turmoil that goes on in my life, the most content with my life and my self that I have ever been
Viva la frugalista!
End of thought dump

Glad you liked my phrase - I'm not normally so forward, but I am trying not to overthink things and just be more chilled generally
Yes the investment board is scary, but I found the scariness is inversely related to the amount you are talking about. Although they do seem to require quite a hard nosed money first attitude, which I still struggle with (obviously read my signature)
The thing I learned though is that YOU need to decide what your investment agenda/requirements are and then use the IFA (or the internet) to implement in the most tax efficient risk managed way
good luck - will keep popping byI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
