Speeding ticket. Provide driver details letter 2 months old

I Have received a letter informing me of a speeding offence.
The offence is 2 months old. They have said it is still valid, is this correct? I was driving a hire car at the time of the so said offence. They stated that the duration of time does not matter. I thought it was 14 days or 28 days if sent back and reposted out to the driver of the car at the time. Is this right ?

No it's not right, the Registered Keeper has to be served within 14 days, that will be the hire car company, leasing company or even a finance company.

Any subsequent notices have no specific time limit, except that the offence cannot be prosecuted after 6 months have elapsed.

You need to take this to our friends on pepipoo.com as they are the police/council motoring experts, whereas we specialise in unfair private parking issues here.

You will need to register with a non-Hotmail email address on pepipoo.
Read the FAQs and post redacted documents, both sides, with your query.

On Pepipoo we almost never want to see the actual NIP/S172 request, we just require the poster to fully complete the NIP Wizard.

OK thanks. I am not familiar with the pepipoo etiquette as I only direct posters there for help if their query is not related to a private parking issue.

    Thanks Baggie.

PEPIPOO. So to clarify. If the hire car company returns the letter to the police or they forward it on to whoever and it ends up going round in circles and then finally gets to me nearly 2 months after the offence, I still cannot contest the time delay even though it is over 28 days?

As long as the first NIP was served in 14 days, there is no legal recourse to contest it. Even if the NIP was served out of time, the driver must still be named, otherwise the potentially more serious offence of failing to provide (6 points and large fine/costs) will be committed.

    Exactly as abiove

Only the first NIP / S172 request has any time limit attached.

Correct, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have no options. Start a thread on pepipoo.

After 37 years of a clean licence it seems i have been doing 40mph in a 30mph zone by a mobile camera. there maybe a mistake on the notice though that may help me get off the charge.
It actually says the speed limit at the time was mph, this is how it is written there is no speed limit before they have put mph, so i wonder if this will get me off, i thought the speed limit on that road was 40 because it has 3 lanes that split off at the end of them.
Does anybody think i'm clutching at straws.

    cheers

Given the notice doesn't have to tell you the limit or what you were caught at then yes you are clutching at straws.

The good news is that all things being equal at that speed you are likely to be offered a speed awareness course. That means no points.
