The number of lanes does not dictate the speed limit, the speed limit signs do. If it is anything else than 30mph, there are small repeater signs every few hundred metres depending on the speed limit.

thought i might be, i know now that my car cam will be getting every police car or van recorded when it goes pass me speeding and the evidence will be sent into the prosecutions & casualty reduction unit camera section. they pass me quite often on the way back to the police station with no flashing lights.

i know but it was just after a bend where the camera van was parked.
it is 40 mph upto the bend.

Exactly. The speed limit starts AT the sign, not the braking to get down to it

Yes but...the reality is that's not what happens even with experienced drivers. Speed traps hidden like that are predatory, IMHO.

I have just looked at this road on google maps and there is no speed limit signs every few hundred metres, in fact there are no speed limit signs until the 30 mph sign where the mobile camrera van was parked, i also think that the 30mph sign is the lowest ans smallest iv'e ever seen, i now know that they park their to make money off alot of drivers that think that road is a 40 mph. road.

For clarification, repeater signs are about 6inches in diameter and usually attached to lamposts etc. Not sure if they'll be obvious on Google Maps.
They are not used in 30mph limits except in unusual circumstances e.g. unlit villages so the rule of thumb is: if there are no repeater signs and you are in a built-up, street-lit area, the speed limit is 30mph
