What Citizens Advice has to say
https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/sick-or-disabled-people-and-carers/employment-and-support-allowance/help-with-your-esa-claim/fill-in-form/medical-evidence/
In my experience as a CitA adviser it is usual for the evidence to be sent in by the claimant.
That's not to say that there might not be occasions when DWP do contact the doctor themselves but it's certainly not the norm - that I am aware of.
The DWP certainly asked my GP for a report when claiming DLA. I don't think they contacted hi for the PIP applications.0 -
That is true it is rare that they contact medical professionals.
They didn't contact my doctor and even though I didn't send any evidence with my form I got support group without a f2f my nephew got the same and I have read of a few other people getting the same.
It really depends a lot on how straight forward your claim is and if you fill in the form in the correct way you will have no problems getting an award.0 -
You have to fill the form in honestly.0

Evidence is a very important part to claiming ESA or any other disability benefit. I wouldn't advice anyone to claim any of them without sending any evidence.
No they didn't contact my doctor, the assessor and decision maker obviously decided that they had enough evidence from the information that I wrote in my form,I got the decision makers report and all it said was I meet a support group descriptor.0 -
