Giffgaff uses the O2 network. Is there any reason that it would be slower on giffgaff?

Edit - I've been investigating this. So although giffgaff uses the O2 network, O2 prioritises it's own customers and giffgaff customers get left with whatever bandwidth is left behind? That may put me off changing over then.

I can confirm this! I get a slightly slower and slightly more patchy connection with Giffgaff than I did with O2. Not enough of an issue to make me want to switch back, but if you're a gamer or are constantly streaming, downloading or uploading things, you may get a bit annoyed I suppose. I stream internet radio for the large part of my day and it still doesn't affect me to want to move back (and pay more...). I've been using Giffgaff for about 3-4 years so far.

The OP can have a better deal by opting for Tesco Mobile - they don't have to make the compromise you have.

Giffgaff isn't particularly cheap anymore plus O2 may also offer a decent retention offer.

    Thanks for all the help.

Because we have BT internet I've discovered that I can get a discount on BT mobile which brings the price down to giffgaff levels. My husband's work phone uses BT too, so I will see how it goes.

In any case I'm keeping my old phone and saving £20 a month, which makes me very happy.

Make sure you get the unlock code if you need it as BT use EE.
Also, check for Quidco/Topcashback plus Amazon vouchers.
