Pending court case??

I dont know if this is the right board but hopefully someone can help.
I have reason to believe that an employee of mine has been charged with a serious motoring offence. I don!!!8217;t have any information but was wondering if there is any way I can find out if there is a court case pending. I don!!!8217;t want to ask the person concerned directly for personal reasons. However, I would like to know if there has been any kind of arrest made. I have looked on the GOV site but cannot see where any details will be. thank you.

Press reports are probably the only way you could find out, although simply asking your employee would be the straightforward solution. Of course, they might tell you to get stuffed, and unless you have a good reason to pursue the issue that is indeed what you will be.

What’s your line of business? Unless it’s a notifiable occupation you’ve not right to information.

Not strictly true, as everyone has a right to access to court cases unless there are legal restrictions in place - hence public access to court rooms.

OP, if you know which court it would be in you could contact the court but they may simply refer you to their daily lists, which are posted in the court for each day's business.

Whether or not you could reasonably use the information is another matter and depends on the nature of employment and contract details.

In a non-critical role, sacking someone just because "you don't approve", and in the absence of any contract conditions re convictions, would almost certainly constitute unfair dismissal.

True, providing they know the date in question and the court. There!!!8217;s no requirement for the police to inform an employer unless the occupation is notifiable.

Edit: You do know what a notifiable occupation is and the polices duties to inform the employer are?
