    Can't you get more information from the grape vine you found out about the arrest from?
    Or possibly the local paper, if it was an interesting enough event.

    Though you're probably best just asking him directly/indirectly and see how he reacts. If he's using your car, your insurance company will need to know about his driving convictions.
