Congratulations DIA on your four day week and finding a female decorator.

Things are sounding so positive for you now, onwards and upwards.

    Thanks Tink :)

Hi DIA - I've been out of action for a few days and came back to see your lovely news! Well done on persevering on the 4-day working week. It'll be magnificent to have that extra day to just relax and have as your own.

You're doing so well with getting your house in order, even if it is going more slowly than you'd like. I hope the female decorator lives up to your needs and gives you a good quote for the works. Long may the positivity continue!
I know! The 4 day a week may just keep me sane(ish):)

    I have done mine!
Thanks for calling me to account. But no :o not today. So the frog is bigger now and getting more difficult to swallow. The window needs to go in first and then the room gets decorated. So didn't want to face the window that I was planning on doing it the other way around and that is plain silly :(

It isn't that. It's the salesman, then the measuring being accurate and then having to check their work and whether they do it properly, then them in my house and being talked down to. The mess I can deal with :o

I am a lot better than I was but i still struggle with tradesmen :(

    Yes, I get that.
    Loathe being talked down too.
I meant that you could decorate first if you wanted & then have window done.
Maybe I picked you up wrongly:o

Ah I misunderstood you. The lady decorator said hairline cracks to the plastering often appear when putting in windows. It isn't noticed with paper but I want plain walls so it might show, so thinking that would be a shame and best to do windows first. Just need to do it and stop being a wuss ;)

Is it only one window? Or all of them? I found a fab company through checkatrade who repair over replace, but will replace if necessary. But the kind of company where one window is fine, no selling etc, just in, measure, quote done.

    Rather than a large company?

    Thank you drawingaline
I need a definite replace as my frames are rotten. To replace: A large bay window (5 panes) and 6 other windows. It is the bay window that is the priority. The others can be done as and when. I would like a small company. The last one I used was smallish but they still rang rings around me :(

It is worth getting a quote from a joiner as aposed to a window company.

My expeience with larger companies is that you probably need to end up at 40% of original advertised price. It was a while ago but I got my 4 bed detached house (80s build) done - 11 windows, 2 doors and a patio door, and I ended up at 50% of initial ask and I still think I paid 10% too much

However as I had it done in January (!!) they weren't very busy so sent 2 vans down and had everything done in a day - basically knocked all the frames out then stuck the new ones in and they've been fine - so if you worry about trademan underfoot you might want to make sure they have enough workers to do it quickly
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine
