Overpayments on credit file/history

Appreciating that any missed or underpayments get flagged up as a 'black mark 'on credit file, by contrast, it one makes small overpayments-on mortgage for example-do they similarly get noted on credit file/history ,and thus improve ones credit rating ; or do overpayments simply go unnoticed/unrecorded 'centrally' and thus not make any difference to ones credit rating ?

I think not, its all about paying your bills on time.0

They are recorded in the decreasing balance but unless it looked well over the contractual payments then it's going to go unnoticed as it would need to be manually subtracted.
The green icons will continue to be recorded whether you decide to pay the contracted amount or overpay.

Precisely. One might think that a CREDIT reference agency is concerned with measuring how you pay back money you've borrowed. That was indeed the original intention. Now, it's much more about whether you pay your bills on time, and the two are not the same. As other posters have pointed out, it can be regarded as a form of blackmail.0 -

I’m not sure anyone could consider it blackmail as per the definition of blackmail.
Unless you just decide to define blackmail however you want, in which case i’ll decide that it means “propositioning a duck on a Tuesday night between the hours of 10 pm and 11pm.”0 -
Making overpayments on your mortgage would not improve your credit history as such but is always a good idea especially in the early years as it can reduce interest and term of the mortgage and get it repaid sooner.0

As the Duck (Unless the very Famous Howard the Duck of the mid 80"s ) cannot speak any other langue other that Quack, would they be able to give consent..or for that matter state that you must stop what ever it is you would be doing with a Duck at between 10pm and 11pm.
Unless your Doctor Dolittle then as you can speak to the animals it would be slightly less strange.
Its 8.30am and the drugs are working....:T0
