How do you split up the finances when one is earning more money ?

  • We don't split up expenses, as far as I am the only person who is working for 2 yrs. Depends on what does your husband mean under "justifying", but if he decides to spend money on smth that is more that $50, yeah, I would like to know where the money are going

  • Have you thought about splitting the bills based on percentages of income you both bring in? For example:
    Income 1: £1,200
    Income 2: £2,100
    Total household income: £3,300

By doing (Income / Total Income) * 100 i.e (1,200/3,300)*100, you see that Income 1 is bringing in 36% and Income 2 is bringing in 64% of the monthly cash.

If you have bills of £2,000 a month:
Income 1 would pay 36% of the bills (£720), leaving £480 a month disposable
Income 2 would pay 64% of the bills (£1,280) leaving £820 a month disposable

Obviously there is a big difference in disposable cash at the end of the month but the approach to the bills would be fairer considering the gap between the earnings?
