O/S Daily Thursday 29th March 2018

This is an !!!8220;over the garden fence!!!8221; type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It!!!8217;s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we!!!8217;re going to do today or what we!!!8217;ve achieved already. Everyone!!!8217;s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn!!!8217;t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don!!!8217;t post large pictures, or clip art !!!8211; links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don!!!8217;t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, not raining at the moment but wet underfoot and lots of laying water after all the rain yesterday - was awful for most of the day once it started. More forecast for the next 4 days.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly as he wants a lift as far as town he'll then walk the rest of the way to the gym.

Dinner last night was a lovely chicken in sauce, mash and veg. Not sure what we're having tonight so will sort it today - I'm not food shopping as normal tomorrow with it being Good Friday, I'm food shopping first thing Saturday morning, so need to organise food for today and tomorrow.

Yesterday work was busy again, but this is our busiest weeks - leading up to and over 1st April - this will last for up to 2 months, maybe longer.

On to today -
I'll be heading into town to visit the bank and building society first thing, then to stop off at SM for food for today and tomorrow. I'll be trying to get washing, drying and ironing done, and also housework. I have several jobs to do on the pc and some phone calls to make, so will be trying to get as much ticked off the "to do" list as possible. I've made a list on my phone notes and just go through the list each week - it seems to work for me - not everything gets done, but I'm endeavouring to at least get some things done every week, which is an improvement as on days' where my get up and go had got up and gone - nothing/very little was getting done.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Thanks for the start nmlc, hope you're enjoying your days off.

It's cold and foggy this morning, we seem to have had all the seasons in one week here, even had a bit of sunshine yesterday.

Went to a rugby tournament last night with the children from school, they played really well but came last! Still, the crisps, chocolate and drinks I took helped their mood!

Last day today then 2 glorious weeks off, just hoping there are no disasters to deal with, or children left at the end of the day, we finish half an hour early so there are always a few stragglers not picked up in time despite numerous texts to parents.

Hoping you are all well, happy Thursday, take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

A chilly start here with a light frost making the fields sparkly. Mind you, the threatened dreadful weather hasn’t arrived. Yesterday turned very bright and not too cold.

This morning I’ve got an extra session with one island student, it’ll only be for half an hour at most. After that it’s heading down to Glasgow again to see DM. Hopefully it’ll be a clear drive.

I’m just enjoying a few extra minutes in bed and wish everyone a very happy Thursday.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I haven't had a peek outside the blinds yet to see what the weather is doing but I know rain is forecast.
I have bags under my eyes as I waited up for Lilly and her friends to come home from the dance she went to. It was her first time and sad to say she had a lovely time until it was time to go home when she and her friends discovered their coats and mobile phones had beeen stolen :(. She is understandably very upset and her friends are panicking about what their parents will say. I told her to report it to the police but she doesn't think it will do any good. A horrible end to a fun night out.

They are all still fast asleep in the living room but I will have to get them up in a minute as they have college this morning. My lovely cmht lady is coming to see me this morning as well. I have shopping being delivered this afternoon so I must make sure the fridge is cleaned out ready for it. Apart from that it is going to be a quiet day so I am looking forward to watching a film and carrying on knitting my baby rainbow blanket.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. I am in wet rag mode yet again after a sleepless night at both ends. Worrying about things I can do nothing about as usual.

It's a lovely start here. Frosty but the sun is out and promises to be a nice day after yesterday's sunshine and showers. No plans for today as we are housebound waiting for a delivery that could come any time between 8 and 8! So no doubt it will arrive at 7.55 tonight! We have ordered a love seat, the one with the little table attached between them. The garden table has seen better days so this will replace it. I am tempted to keep the old table tucked away somewhere to use as a potting table.

I got 2 bags of leeks at 19p each from Aldi yesterday and plan on making on a big batch of leek and bacon soup today in my stock pot. My stocks of cooking bacon are dwindling so must remember to get some more.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) to all who need them. And can those of you with doggies or doggy lodgers give them a hug and a love from me please. It's 13 years since we lost our last doggy and we still miss having one. Take care all xx ps any news from SR?

That's two attempts at a post, both eaten by Internet.
Dumpling, how sad, hope this doesn't put your daughter off going out.

Funeral was a lovely tribute and celebration of D's life.

I need to go to work hope all are well

    Morning everyone,

Beautiful sunny day here after yesterday’s continuous rain, good to see.

Over to the stables this morning to see Lu and get her working, she is a smart cookie for sure and i love to watch her horsey brain working through all the information.
Have some dried fruit steeping in tea at the moment so will make a Bara Birth this afternoon ahead of the weekend, then perhaps a chocolate cake as well, got to have choc at Easter!

Sorry to hear of the disappointing end to the girls evening out Dumpling some rotten people out there.
Oh TA just gave little dog the biggest hug and the last bit of my toast, they have your heart for ever don’t they, hugs x

Have a good day folks x
  • Good morning everyone,

Blue skies but wet underfoot. Temp in car said -0.5. Had to defrost it this morning. Door was frozen shut!

Yesterday I was last out of work at around 7.30. Home > Dinner > Book > Bed. Seems to a pattern of late. I'm in 2 minds. On one hand I enjoy working late, getting things done, being proud of my work and staying on top of it. On the other, I'm working 11/12 hour days (not paid hourly) and I get very little thanks. I've always opted for the former.

Tonight, surprise surprise, will be much the same I recon.

camelot - enjoy our time off!! And crisps and chocolate always help.
Dumpling - Such a shame for Lilly and her friends, particularly with it being their first time. I hope it doesn't put them off going out and enjoying themselves in the future. I'd encourage her to at least report it to her phone provider so that they don't rack up bills!
TA - Wait...what's the difference between cooking bacon and..well..normal bacon?
  • SPEKY Cooking bacon is far cheaper!! I can get a 1 kg pack for £1.50 from a shop in town. All mis-shaped pieces but very lean and hardly any fat to trim off! Perfect for soups, pizza, quiche etc.

Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Its a bright morning, but quite chilly. OH is going out to do a bit more work on the shed, I have a load of washing in, think it will go in the dryer, the forecast is not good for later.

We have friends coming for lunch. I made the soup yesterday, just have to re heat it and whisk the cooked spud in. Sandwiches to make, egg mayo and ham.

If it stays fine I might just get out and sort out the plants that are to go into the garden. The little choysia I bought has shot up, it will need repotting into a slightly larger pot, it will go in the ground in the autumn. Hopefully I can clear the rubbish from the back of the house and hang the hose up.

We will have a couple of the ready meals tonight, will be crackered after the visitors have gone.

Dumpling, I was sorry to hear about your daughters experience at the dance, hope it does not put them off going in the future. They should report it to the police. Hope they reported it at the dance before they left.

Forgot to say, the new cleaners went through the house like a dose of salts, they finished a bit early, so I will have to sort out something extra for them to do next week. Wet room steam cleaned, walls etc done, cobwebs liberated, used the ken dodd behind the wardrobe book case and dressers.

dumpling, what a horrible thing to happen. Do report it, if any of them have insurance (or can claim on house insurance) they will need a crime number.

We've started the 5:2 diet and today is a 500 calorie day so I'll probably make lentil and tomato soup for lunch with smoked haddock, a poached egg and broccoli for dinner.

We want to take the puplet for a walk before it starts raining again, then we need to pick up her short lead which we left at the vet's yesterday. What an exciting life I lead.
