We should try to compile a list with the pros and cons of all online garden retailers - who does the best and worst of whatever product - what do you think?0

Trouble with on line retailers, or DIY sheds, is they often vary from year to year, which is why I prefer to go and look for myself whenever possible
I know compost is very variable, one year good friable stuff, next year, full of glass, wire, bark & twigsWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0 -
Brilliant idea seanoctagan. Great help, thanks halogen!0

Thanks halogen and mardatha (and Farway - you've definitely got a good point, but a survey on here should bring out some general guidlines). Let's hope we get a few more responses and then we can compile a table of sorts0

Given the number of regular responders here, I don't think that will be possible.seanoctagan wrote: »We should try to compile a list with the pros and cons of all online garden retailers - who does the best and worst of whatever product - what do you think?
We would also be making judgements where the individual's preferences could have undue influence.
For example, having unpacked my hedging from Buckingham Nurseries, I found that there was quite a variation in plant size. But then I noticed the smaller plants had been sent 2 to a pot, so I ended up with an extra 10 plants.
To me, that was a bonus, but to someone with limited space, it might have been a, "What the hell do I do with the extra ones?" situation.0 -
I've found crocus.co.uk very good for plants and service. For plants acclimated to Scotland's weather -
Binny Plants (https://www.binnyplants.com/) near Edinburgh also good, I'm close enough I don't need to use their mail order
Also one I visit but they do a lot of mail order is McLarens (https://www.mclarensnurseriesltd.co.uk/) near Barrhead0 -
Oh magic, thanks Debbie! I got stuff from ebay yesterday - 4 Astrantia and 6 Sweet William. I have them dunked in tubs of water, not sure if I can plant them out yet as there is still snow lying in sheltered areas.
