The advantage of a local stockist is they will sell plants that will survive in your climate and the plants will be used to these conditions.
Plants raised in greenhouse in a warmer climate will look good to buy but may shrivel up when planted out.0 -
Yes. But getting the husband to drive me there isn't easy.. once a year and he thinks that's it, duty done! I want to go weekly0

Dare I suggest... reciprocate?;).0 -
GoTo4Gardening send a weekly email - as well as good gardening tips they usually have genuinely good offers for their readers - the offers are often very specific ie one kind of plant or something but I find i usually have one that fits my gardening taste every few weeks0

I'd just like to withdraw my recommendation for Beechwood, at post #9. I've just come across their "customer service" with a problem on my latest order. Rude and unhelpful wouldn't begin to cover it!
Recommendation withdrawn! :rotfl:0 -
At least you found out and needn't go back DD.0

Comical, really. I wrote them an email:
Hi,
Just opened my order. There is a bundle of 10 Alder, but no others, and the order was for 20. I don't mind whether another 10 are dispatched, or a refund made - either is acceptable, whichever is easier your end is fine.
Cheers,
Dafty
Their reply:
Hello Dafty,
Did you not count them? There are 20.
Robert
Um...I can count up to 12; I'm a big boy now... I had attached a photo of the label they sent, too! Admittedly upside down! P'raps that foxed them...
Oh well, a shame. Their plants remain good, but I can't recommend anyone who is that unhelpful. Especially when there are so many other sellers.
How's the weather up there, mardatha? Bet we have a bigger puddle in our garden than you have in yours....0 -

By contrast, Buckingham Nurseries contacted me this week prior to making up my order to apologise and ask if I still wanted the plants, some of which were several cm shorter than usual.
I told them to go ahead. As I've been saying for decades now, size isn't everything; it's turgidity that counts at my age! :cool:0 -
DD I haven't got any puddles, I've got 5 inches of snow and a blizzard!0
