PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. Report censorship to MSE Martin

Oh get over it. There are plenty of places to discuss house prices on the web, I'm a member of one & used to be a member of another one, (before they withdrew my posting rights for questioning the party line - now that's censorship).
Yes there are other places to discuss house prices, but MSE is probably the largest general personal finance forum so it is pertinent that this most important of personal finance issues is on the board.Guy_Montag wrote: »This is a place for people in need of genuine help.
So people deciding on whether or not to buy property are not in need of help with the biggest personal financial decision they will ever make then ?Guy_Montag wrote: »Deal with it, get on with your lives, get righteously indignant about something worthwhile, like climate change or the problems in Darfur/Zimbabwe/Burma/other tin-pot dictatorship of your choice or pensions, or dammit even the stupid price of housing, but get over the fact that you & others like you were taking over a forum that covers all aspects of housing.
You seem to have a problem with an open discussion of house prices along with Divadee0 -
I would imagine that divadee has already consulted with the mods before deleting the threads in question, and posting the sticky asking for no more threads on this topic.
Actually I was complaining about the deletion of posts within the new sticky thread, but yes, it seems that the other previous threads regarding house prices have either not been merged as promised or have been deleted! Why not shove all the previous threads on renting into a sticky and merge/delete all previous threads on renting ? No I didn't think so..0 -
p.s. I am not a newbie on MSE. I was on here ages ago ... for a long time, then didn't use the site for a while and forgot my username/password. So I have plenty of experience seeing these house price threads in with the "other" threads.0

When will people get it through their heads?
There is no censorship. If you want to post your titbits of information about the impending crash, to back up all the other titbits of information, then post it on the HPC thread. And argue about them there.
If you want to make reasonable discussion in response to a question from a genuine potential buyer such as 'is now the right time for me to buy' then by all means, put in your twopenneth worth. Comments made are more ikely to have a positive impact on their decisions if they aren't called stupid, a numpty or a muppet in the process.
Nobody wants to see anybody silenced, just a balance - the primary aim of the board must be to help people, not to post umpteen threads about the impending crash making the board to look like everyone here is expecting massive price falls. They are there to be read, in one neat place. No censorship, just not taking over the place. If you want to throw titbits and anecdotals around constantly then either use the thread, or the proper forums.
What is so bad about that? Give divadee a break. She's no militant.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Any user who uses those terms in that situation you described should be deleted for abusive content.
On a seperate note ... and to make my point here ... if your genuine potential buyer posts that question in the house price crash thread they are going to see a load of overlapping answers from different discussions going on in the house price crash thread at the same time, hence the need for a dedicated house prices sub board where they could post their own thread and get dedicated responses.Doozergirl wrote: »Nobody wants to see anybody silenced, just a balanceDoozergirl wrote: »- Give divadee a break. I think there is a clear need for a house prices sub board. It is an issue of immense interest to the general public and to simply shove all the posts into a sticky thread does not do it justice!0 -
Where have my posts on house price thread gone?
Corrupted thread ? I don't think so Divadee ... I work in web development/IT .... what has happened is someone has deleted the posts in the house price thread.
The essence of MSE is the freedom of information regarding matters of money ... Does anyone else think this censorship should be reported to MSE Martin?Been away for a while.0 -
There are two issues that bother me.
The sticky is House Price Crash and not House prices. I was allowed to keep my House Price Rise thread on the main forum which isn't even handed treatment of the opposing sides. I can see either side think that unfair. It gives the impression that discussing price rises is OK but discussing price falls is not as that has been syphoned off. On the other hand threads disappear quickly from the main forum so the crash thread is more prominent.
The crash sticky thread was wiped out. This doesn't look good even if it was a !!!! up and not a conspiracy. The explanitory post said they were investigating getting it back which would help...0 -

Could I get some clarification as to what is/isn't allowed/approved of? I tend to post on threads where people are discussing whether or not to buy or rent at this moment in time, as that is where my interests and experience lie, and I hope I might be able to offer some useful advice to people in that situation, which I have also recently been in myself. As I personally believe house prices will fall, and that (obviously some individual's circumstances are different) in general it is not a good time for someone to be overstretching themselves at the moment, I feel morally duty-bound to point it out. It's not scare-mongering for its own sake (I've never started any threads on the forum) just trying to give individual posters the best advice I can. I do worry that the current ban gives a very misleading impression of the market and future price expectations. When all the major newspapers have stories about the IMF predictions on their front pages, worried would-be buyers will turn to mse for advice - and if they cannot find it (as a relatively 'light' user of the site, I only just discovered stickys existed recently and a new poster might well not notice them at all) may draw the conclusion - wrongly in my opinion and the opinion of other posters - that nothing untoward will happen.
Is it just threads titled House Price Crash!!! that are restricted, or are all threads covering similar ground but differently named deemed acceptable?
I'm sure I'm not the only one surprised by the move taken - surely the posters simply reflect general sentiment at the moment, which IS rather negative. Unless this surfeit of posts is a very recent occurrence, I only visited the board for the first time in February, seeking advice myself, and had no difficulty then in finding the relevant threads and posting my own (a belated thank-you to all who responded, especially, if I recall, Doozergirl...)
Or could we not be democratic about this and do a poll?
Or is that too radical for mse...?0 -

You have managed to, in the same sentence (your very first one) describe your own post whilst at the same time accusing me of the same.... you are clearly an ignorant c .... nah .... i'm not gonna get into an slanging match with you mate... you're not worth it0
