I discovered a leaflet for this with a motoring magazine and looking closer it is on the website, but if no Shell purchase is made within a month, the reward rolls over to the next month (subject to the six month limit).
buchanan17 - that's quite a good point. If you do a Station Locator search from the Shell website, that one does come up but named as Teversham Corner Filling Station while all the other ones nearby have a name beginning Shell, so Teversham is likely to be one of many not owned by Shell.
As well as being vague on the rollover above, they are not clear on what constitutes Shell fuel or a Shell petrol station. They only specifically exclude Shell forecourts run by Sainsbury's, but do not mention exclusion of other Shell forecourts not owned by Shell.
Your post would suggest their view is that a petrol station with Shell branding where you can buy Shell fuel is not necessarily a "Shell petrol station". Since the credit card T&Cs do not explicitly define this, I would try to fight this one and get Martin on the case if they do not play ball.
Just to be clear though, assuming your statement date is the last day of the month, I presume you bought the fuel in September and October, yet did not get the September 6% deducted from your October purchase?0 -
James - the call centre agreed that Teversham garage was not a "Shell" garage. Actually driving past today, it is a little more decrepit than Shell garages. makes me wonder if they really do sell Shell petrol!!
First statement. Shell purchases are shown as so many litres at Shell garages. Teversham does not appear any different to other entries (and I did the math and I got 6% on the 2 "real" Shell purchases, and 2% on everything else including 4 purchases at Teversham garage.
To me, the customer, any garage with Shell on it is a Shell garage. Many Body Shopsd and MacDonalds for example are franchises, but a customer expects any money off coupons etc to be accepted there.
How do you get Martin to fight it?!! I will get back to Shell/Citi in a few days.0 -
How long should acceptance take? I applied last Monday & no news yet0

buchanan17 - you're totally right that unless this was one of the specifically excluded Shell fuel purchases (i.e. Sainsbury's or pay at pump) then you should expect to get the 6% cashback.
In fact, the way it is worded, you could even get 6% off the Sainsburys and pay at pump, although the rebate could only be redeemed against a future purchase from a 'Shell' petrol station.
The wording of the conditions is probably such that they can escape paying anyones cashback if they don't want to, but the point here is that are misleading by promoting an offer but not delivering the cashback as described.
For a financial firm in particular (this being Citi, not Shell), misleading customers whether accidental or not is heavily frowned upon by consumer bodies, regulators and sites like this.
Not sure how to get Martin involved I'm afraid.
James
PS Can you get Drivers Club points at Teversham?0 -
I've had quite a bit of trouble with my Shell/Citi card recently. Firstly I stopped off at Chieveley (which turns out not to be a "Shell" station) to fill up as I was on vapour. They were out of regular unleaded (and diesel) so I got half a tank of V-Power at 108.9p  only to be told that their machines wouldn't authorise any Shell/Citi cards, and their chip and pin wasn't working so I had to sign against another card.
Then my regular (proper) Shell station in Leatherhead told me today that they were unable to authorise payments on Shell/Citi cards.
Has anyone else found Shell stations that won't accept Shell credit cards?
And I didn't notice the Pay at Pump exclusion. Cheeky b*ggers! I'll have to remember to pay in the kiosk next time I'm filling up in Basingstoke.0 -
Hi,
I've currently got an Egg credit card, so get 1% cash back and I fill up with fuel once a week at Shell so think this would suit me even after the 60 days. Add the 1% cash back on all other purchases it seems a no brainer to replace the Egg.
Is there anything else worth considering? I've checked to make sure the petrol local stations are official Shell stations.
Thanks in advance.0 -
I have one and it works fine.
Say you spend £100 in month 1, statement shows £1 of cashback earned.
In month 2 you spend another £100, so now you have £2 of cashback earned.
Then when you put Shell fuel in the car it comes up as £2 credit on your bill.
Your statement looks like
Month 1
Spent £100
CB Earned £1
CB Spent 0
Month 2
Spent £200
CB Earned £2
Went to Shell, got 20 litres at £1.00p, £2 CB redeemed
Balance £1980 -
I am still waiting to find out if I have been accepted/rejected. I applied three weeks ago!
They sent me a letter to call them to clarify a few details and that was just to confirm my date of birth.
That was two weeks ago!0 -
I've had the same problem with Citi not recognising two Shell "branded" stations, one in Barton Stacey (Wilts on A303) & thus not getting the promised enhanced cashback on my statement.
Has anyone had any luck forcing Citi to pay up yet? I spoke to the call centre & the girl assured me this error would be corrected. Not at all confident in her assertion though....0
