Convert one of your toilets to a liquid only toilet by putting a large stone in the bottom of it, then reducing the amount of flush by stones/bricks/water hippo in the cistern so that a 2 litre flush is achieved.
Any of you willing to give this a go!!! This is the first time I've told anyone about it, so let me know what you think.

honesty being the best,,,,,,,,,,,you have lost the plot

I have just moved into a house with two loos, haven't tried converting one to a liquid only loo, but it sounds like a goer to me (excuse the pun).

I also know several people who have two loos and they have all banned No 2's in the downstairs loo. Apparently it can stick the living room out.

I've been in friends, and work colleagues house where they have banned No 2's in the downstairs loo and it is funny.

One or two actually pointed out the loos when I went in, and explained that the downstairs one was for No 1's only.

Others have waited until I asked for the loo then asked why I wanted to use it. Others have just replied "Downstairs for No 1's only, upstairs for No 2's".

I reckon if you are Ok with doing that to "guests" then why not chuck a few stones in and save your self some money too.
  • Twyford the sanitaryware manufacturer have just launched a W.C that is a 4/2 litre flush it has just gained all the certificates it requires and means you get the best of both worlds. Its low water usage and means you don't have to interrogate guests as to their plans before they go

Not very money saving buying a new loo, but if you needed to replace one.

Any way, since writing my post I have been informed, by one who knows about these things that it is common knowledge, and part of the social etiquette in Dorset that you don't do No 2's in downstairs loos.

Unfortunately I can see this causing problems for me, as my loo is off the living room and if I leave the loo door open I can see the TV.

If that doesn't put her off wanting to move in I'll have to start wetting the bed!
  • it was a mere suggestion especially if everyone is going to start lobbing bricks into their vitreous china cisterns, someone will have the misfortune of breaking one

It was a good suggestion for anyone needing to buy a new, or replace an old loo. I'm all for it and think they should be fitted as standard in downstairs loos. Not because they would save you much money, but because it is good clean drinking water you are flushing down the loo.

When I asked why my house was built with a loo downstairs I was told that all new houses built after a certain date had to have a downstairs loo. I can only assume that is because you may get a visitor that is disabled and cannot get up the stairs.

Apart from that reason a liquid only loo sounds like a good idea to me. As long as it had enough flush to cope with the paper the ladies will use too.

Especially since I have been told that everyone but me knows it is polite not to pooh in downstairs loos. So if it is becoming a social "don't do" then why not go the whole hog and make the loo liquid only.

If you're replacing a loo why not go the whole hog and get a urinal, bet they don't use up much water. Also they don't take up much floor space and are "easier" to use ;)

Because the ladies won't use them ;)

Ours at work seems to flush every few minutes whether someone has used it or not.

I've seen some new waterless urinals recently, not quite sure how they work if they don't need water to flush them.

Yeh you get waterless ones, also you can get "normal" ones that either use a senser to detect if it's been used, or just have a handle to flush manually after use

You have just destroyed the resale market for bungalows.
