Do you have two loos? Save massive amounts of water

Make your own Rock Bog, it will save loads of water and is really simple, and best of all free.

Convert one of your toilets into a Rock Bog by putting one or two large stones in the bottom of the pan, then reducing the amount of water in the flush with stones or bricks so that you have just a 1 or 2 litre flush.

Why? You'll have a super efficient liquid only loo which can be used by men AND women (no not so mellow yellow splash back for the ladies). You will save water and money. It will look nice (a Zen garden in your loo!).

Any of you willing to give this a go!!!

But what if a lady sits down, gets started and discover it's not going to be a liquid only delivery after all?

There's plenty of water available in this country, why not use a rain butt to supply the water, or recycle your bath/shower water?
  • Because it's a hassle*, and re-plumbing your house to supply rain water to the toilets is expensive.

And you soon learn to recognise if you need a number 1 or number 2!

*and all data suggests that if something is a hassle, most people won't get round to it, or may start then give up. We have to make going green really really easy, and inexpensive for it to be a realistic option for most of the population.

Not in Dorset there's not, it hardly ever rains here! On the news this morning they were giving details about the new hose pipe ban, which basically bans the use of hose pipes for anything apart from putting out fires.

Sounds like a good idea, but it's tricky to ask visitors and workmen what they are intending to release from their system when they ask to use your toilet.
  • So, if they are visitors rather than close friends, tell them to use the general toilet. If they come across the other one without talking to you, there's be a bit of a clue that it's different if it's filled with stones!

It would just mean that people would have to get into the habit of using different toilets for different occasions.

I couldn't do that - I never know what the occasion is until I get there! :D

  • Ladies use toilet paper whatever the occasion. Where will that go in the liquid only toilet?

I suppose you could put it in a bucket and them compost it.

I do remember a friend of mine who used to work in the industry saying that it was all the stuff that wasn't human waste which caused the problems and expense in water treatment.
  • Convert one of your toilets to a liquid only toilet by putting a large stone in the bottom of it, then reducing the amount of flush by stones/bricks/water hippo in the cistern so that a 2 litre flush is achieved.
Any of you willing to give this a go!!! This is the first time I've told anyone about it, so let me know what you think.
