Double glazing quote - too scared to ask!

I would like a quote to replace all my windows (9) and doors (2). However, I get LOTS of cold-callers and they've all been really pushy, verging on aggressive. So I'm really shy of calling any of these firms! At the moment all I want is a quote so I know how much money I need to save and DON'T want to take out credit. I'm guessing it'll be around £10k but if it's less then that would mean it could be done earlier than anticipated.
Any advice would be appreciated. If I'm completely off with the £10k figure let me know. Any recommendations (positive or negative) would be great.
Thank you!

Where I live there is a company that ticks boxes. Which Trusted (I think) and Trading Standards approved. They advertise double glazing, conservatories, doors and aim at the older folks. They guarantee any visit to quote will not last more than iirr 20 minutes, They claim to offer one non negotiable quote. They have traded many years by doing so.
They advertise and promote traditionally - freeby local booklets through the letter box have their advert in there
Why not search out a local version of this approach?
Would I use this company? That is an entirely different question to the one you post, but everybody knows where they stand with this company.0 -
Thank you Furts, they're great tips!0

If you are in the Manchester/South Manchester area then I would be happy to send you a private message with the name of the father and son company that did all my windows and bifolds (and also done work for loads of my friends)
I would recommend them to anyone based on my experiences.
He priced and itemised each window individually and explained that if we wanted to do them a few at a time or do some this year and some next to spread the cost then that was fine, just add up the numbers.
No hard sell, in fact I had to chase him for the quote!

I had all new windows recently, I went to a few long established local companies who came in, discussed our requirements & measured up. Then I went to the showroom to look at the product & pick a style. Then I decided on one taking into consideration price & how much I trusted them. It didn't turn out too bad.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

So, get a few companies to quote then look at their work. It sounds sensible when spending so much money!! Thank you0 -
Just spent an hour looking online at a few different companies. For some of them I had to fill my details in to get more information (they were the bigger companies) & guess what, phone calls almost immediately. Some asking me who I live with?!?! erm... how is THAT any of their business? I wonder if they ask everyone that?!?! How odd! Mind you, by that time my back's already up so not taking the feeling of being harassed too well!
The chaps who fitted my carpets were great so I'm going to pop my head in their door & see if they know anyone.0 -
That looks really expensive, i recently had 3 doors, a large set or patio doors, and 8 windows (two of which are very large) for £5500.
Contact some of the smaller local companies, and avoid the big chains.0 -

If you know a local builder you trust ask him for a quote.0
