There's always something bigger than you and in this case it would be lorries and buses.

They can get one of the several HGVs they now have and use that.

One, according to the government https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-supercabs-to-tackle-dangerous-driving-on-englands-motorways

    Three more coming soon.

But still different from "several HGVs they now have".

If i do have a grace period til 2022, then i could be reasonably happy with that. I missed reading that.
I have owned my range for five years, six years this august. I planned on changing it in about two maybe three years time. Low mileage, well looked after and a pleasure to drive. I bought a range as yes, being a country bumpkin, i was brought up with everything tractor, plant, 4x4 and air whether fresh or smelly. London is such a grind, i needed to have comfort during jams, sighting from the drivers seat, pot holes, speed humps and protect myself from cyclists. My mondeo was getting wrecked so i upgraded. If you live in london then you would fully understand where i am coming from.
I do use public transport alot but depending on work, i have a large toolkit to transport about which is why i have to drive, especially outside london, back and fore home
I live just up the road from tower bridge, in Rotherhithe outside the C-Charge zone but well inside the ULEZ area. The car is diesel and i will always stick with diesel. Petrol does half the mileage than diesel. If the info above is correct and i have a grace period, then i will buy a new range when it comes closer the time. I need to check this.
Anyway, the tractor i had in mind would be exempt if what i read is correct. It would be run on white diesel, & taxed. I would never pay for parking in central london. The tractor would just replace my car. It is as expensive, just as comfortable and just as powerful but not as fast. Two models i would purchase for size, comfort and my safety would be those featured in the below videos. Ford TW35 or Ford 8830. These were the beasts in their days and which we also had for our business. Not many commuters in london using a big 4 wheel drive tractor to get around. I'll have great pleasure in putting my two fingers up to our mayor. If i get caught up in any accidents then my insurance would be claim free as zero damage would be done to my tractor compared to any car.

The whole emissions thing in london is a joke. TFL has completely bodged london up with cycle lanes, creating more danger for cyclists, creating longer and bigger traffic jams, and sending traffic in to traffic jams by taking out left and right turns at junctions. By this, they will still increase emissions in london worse than previously.

Why do you need an enormous 4x4 to 'protect' yourself from cyclists? Isn't it them who need protecting from you?

    Residents
    - Registered residents who live in the ULEZ will be granted a time limited 100% discount to give them more time to change their vehicle to meet the ULEZ standards
    - The discount will be available to those who live in the ULEZ from 8 April 2019 to 10 April 2022 and will only apply while they live within the zone
    - From 11 April 2022, residents must pay the full daily ULEZ charge to drive a vehicle in the zone if it does not meet the ULEZ standards
    - Residents will continue to pay the T-Charge, at a discounted rate of 90%, during the ULEZ resident sunset period

The ULEZ residents' discount will be available to central London residents within the ULEZ and in designated areas next to the ULEZ (as apply to the Congestion Charge residents' discount). To benefit from the residents' sunset period, you must have successfully registered with Transport for London.

    Hope that helps.

Can anyone confirm that i could use a tractor instead of my range and exempt from ULEZ?
May I ask, is someone as disconnected from reality as you are able to function in the real world?

OP, the whole point of the ULEZ to improve air quality by reducing emissions. If every numpty saw it as a challenge to bypass the rules with bonkers ideas, then air quality would just get worse, and the 1000's of deaths each year due to poor air quality would continue to rise - something like 40,000 deaths per year are linked to air quality in the UK, and London will account for a big chunk of them. Put another way, 1 in every 10 deaths in this country (in 2015) was due to air pollution - and you're whinging that you might have to stop driving your range rover. Doh.
Why not have a bit of social conscience and ask how you can carry on living your life without polluting the city. Your thinking is flawed - the answer is to get a cleaner engine vehicle, and newer diesels meet the standards, so you can carry on dieseling away to your hearts content. Why not try cycling then you can see how the other half is affected by people driving round in big 4x4s in a city where they aren't needed. For once the govt. and local councils are trying to do something to benefit ordinary people without any hidden agenda and we get this nonsense. It beggars belief. Before anyone says it's about making money for the mayor's office - you don't have to pay if you drive a cleaner vehicle. If everyone did that, the ULEZ income would be £0, and the air would be sweet from the smell of the Thames. Sorry for the rant, but this sort of stuff really winds me up.

Utter nonsense. There is a theoretical reduction in lifespan caused by pollution (of all types). That could be a week or a few days off the life of a 90 year old. 1 in 10 death certificates do not state the cause of death as air pollution.

Yes, new vehicles are getting cleaner every, but why should someone like the OP be penalised for purchasing a vehicle that met all the relevant standards just a few short years ago? Anyway where is social responsibility in scraping a vehicle that has many more years of use out of and buying a new one with its own environmental footprint.

There is an agenda, an anti motor vehicle agenda being espoused by the various environmental groups with their deep pocketed supporters putting pressure on councils and governments via court action, dodgy pseudo-scientific studies and lobbying pressure. "The other half", "ordinary people" don't make me laugh, we are talking the eco-warriors and SJW's and their "right on" causes. The OP is one of the ordinary people.

The OP's Range Rover met the applicable standards 8 years ago, when it was new. It may be one of the last Euro 4 emission standard vehicles (2005 standard), or it may be one of the first Euro 5a standard (2009 standard). The standards have been tightened twice (5b, 2011 standard; 6, 2014 standard) From next year, the ULEZ will require diesels to be Euro 6 - the oldest compatible cars will be 5 years old.

Why is the only option to scrap it? The ULEZ only affects vehicles used in the central London Congestion Charge zone. That's a very, very small number of cars - and there are plenty of options for going around it - the trunk routes forming its borders are outside the scope, for a start.
The OP is one of the ordinary people.
The OP is driving £15-20k of 3.6 or 4.4 litre v8, 275 or 310bhp, 2.75 ton, 2m wide, 5m long, 1.9m tall 4wd regularly through the very heart of one of the most polluted cities in the UK. He's paying over £500 in VED per year because of the emissions.

    ...instead of taking public transport.
