Trick Or Treating - am i mean?

We participate. I love dressing up and turning the lights off so I can scare this S**t out of all the kids that come to the door. Freddie or what.
However we only give out sweets that are wrapped and only let our kids have wrapped sweets. We also go with them and only go the neighbours where other kids come from and my sister in law's around the corner, cos she is scary anyway.0 -

You did not say in your original thread that you still had parties etc...
So apologise for sounding a bit rude.
Dont see a problem.
Well done.
sorry i wasnt clear. I have no problem with halloween as such, just the trick or treating side of things0 -

I've just spent the weekend preparing and delivering treat or treat packs/posters to all my neighbours. The posters are distributed by the police and any one can display them to stop treat or treaters knocking.
Many people chose to display them last year and then seemed to work quite well, although I'll also wait for feedback on this year's campaign to see if people felt that they worked.
Personally, I'll be out trick or treating with my children. I think if done right, it really is harmless fun and a great excuse to dress up."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I am 25 and I used to go Trick or Treating with my much older sister when I was little. Even then I was only allowed to go to the houses of family or friends. It was fun to dress up and take part in the tradition but I wouldn't have even wanted to go to strangers houses. This is common practise in our family and all the little ones are allowed to go to the homes of family and friends only with an adult. That way they don't miss out but we can be assured that they are safe.
I do like it when little ones come to our door and we always have sweets for them, thiough where I used to live it was a small neighbourhood so we knew almost all the children anyway. Now I like in a flat I am not sure we will get any this year.0 -
My mum never let me or my sister go, because she thought it was begging, and I never had a deprived childhood lol! Sometimes I'd dress up in case anyone came but we didn't really get many where we lived anyway. We used to buy cheap themed sweets from the supermarket and then eat them all the next day if there were any left!
Once we went carol singing, me, my mum, my sister, my mum's friend and her daughter. We baked biscuits for people to buy, and gave all the money to charity. That was great fun and we got to eat all the cookies that were left, and the batch that went wrong!I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0 -

We get kids selling sweets door to door, kinda like that0 -
I'm only 24 and I think its stupid to let kids particpate in this American tradition. I would be more willing to accept it if they even knew what halloween was all about and understood the whole trick or treat thing.
The whole trick or treat tradition dates back to Ireland and is basically begging for food....0 -

Whats yoru view on this practice?
totally agree !
i dont find it so bad if its friends / relatives or maybe close neighbours
but a no no definitely if its people we dont know !!
we tend to go to halloween parties etc instead of going "trick or treating"0 -
We don't have kids and thre aren't any down our road but we still get at least twelve knocks on the door from trick or treaters. I don't like it much as a tradition for the same reasons as others who have posted and so we don't answer. you can always tell the groups who don't have adults with them as they can see the lights on and just keep knocking and knocking!!
We used to live in a ground floor maisonette before the house we're in now and one year we got a group of teenage lads round the week before halloween who were 'trick or treating' - they were the recipients of a few choice words from my DH and !!
