I'd be surprised if two bikes wouldn't fit in a berlingo multispace or transit tourneo. Older picasso has removable rear seats. Not found any 4x4 or people carrier which will take full size bikes without taking front whhes off.
Have you tried putting the bikes in any vehicle or simply measured them and looked at vehicle sizes?
Seatposts and saddle can be removed very easily on most bikes.0 -
Aha, so my 1980s VW Caravelle Syncro gets the higher speed limits. Shame it wont actually do 70mph :rotfl:Rover_Driver wrote: »For a Dual Purpose vehicle, the limit is 2040kg unladen weight, plus roof, windows and seats or 4 wheel drive.

It should do, easily. I've seen the thick end of 90 out of our Westy Club Joker... and it's a hightop... Mind you, the fuel needle moves even faster - WBX...onomatopoeia99 wrote: »Aha, so my 1980s VW Caravelle Syncro gets the higher speed limits. Shame it wont actually do 70mph :rotfl:
A 'velle should be either a JX turbodiesel or a DJ WBX, I'd have thought?
Even the 1.7D hightop homebrew camper we had lurking here for a while'd top 70. Took a while to get there, though.0 -

Ford galaxy, Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner (the version with windows & rear seats) will all take a bike upright with the wheels on and are "cars" so are not restricted like a "van". You may find a problem insuring a van cheaply for SDP&C as well.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

It's a 1.9 petrol wasserboxer, no high-top roof (it is a minibus rather than a camper so has two sliding doors, not that this is relevant) and 65mph is as much as it will manage without a tailwind. It runs fine and I have it serviced by a specialist so I know the timing, carb etc are all set correctly, it's just never been prepared to go any faster than that..It should do, easily. I've seen the thick end of 90 out of our Westy Club Joker... and it's a hightop... Mind you, the fuel needle moves even faster - WBX...

I own a Berlingo and you won't get two bikes in unless you take out the front wheels.
As for speed limits. Vehicles up to 7.6T and not towing a trailer can do 50 on single carriage ways, 60 on dual carriage ways and 70 on M-ways. Not that the plod round my way take any notice as long as they are being driven sensibly.
I seam to remember Citreon, Peugeot and Fiat did a midi-van based on one of their MPVs. That would easily take your bikes and, being car-derived, will not be subject to speed limits.Never Knowingly Understood.

Any reason not to get an estate car? It takes only a few seconds to drop a front wheel out, and then you should be able to easily get two bikes in the back.
It seems overkill to go for a van to save a minute at each end of the occasional trip.0 -

From the OP's original post:
" ... leaving car unattended with bikes on is not really very secure, bikes cost a lot of money, so much prefer them not to be seen. "I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
