Valliant or Ideal exclusive

Which is the more reliable boiler brand?

I know there will be lots of other factors involved in deciding which boiler, but I'm interested in flushing out any obvious concerns with either. (Need to make a quick decision).

My husband has been a plumber for 25yrs and would t fit an Ideal. Only fits Valluant and that!!!8217;s what we have in our own house. If fitted by a valiant approved contractor, you get an extended Valiant guarantee of 5 yrs.

"Which?" gives a list of GAS boilers rating them for reliability.

The two rated equal highest are Viessmann and Worcester Bosch.

Next comes Vaillant, Ideal, Alpha, Glow-Worm and Ariston - all with equal scores.

Other boilers they list have lower scores.

A list that compiles boilers on reliability and then puts ideal and ariston on a equal to Vaillant isnt worth reading.

Vaillant is the better of the 2 but warranty support should be top of the list. There are far better warranties out there just now. The Baxi platinum is one of the best on the market just now and is offering a 10 year warranty.

The margin of error depends on sample size, so unless you have a dataset significantly larger than the 10,000 boilers a year that Which are surveying, your opinion doesn't really cut the mustard.

Some manufacturers can have good years or bad years, so an even better way to check reliability is by looking at more than one years ratings, in which case Worcester Bosch is the one that has been top every year for about the last 7 years.

I will admit I know nothing about which, ive never read even one page but ive serviced and repaired boiler for at least 15yrs and am comfortable enough with my experience to say the list is nonsense.

Ideals are listed as reliable as Vaillant, manufacturers tend to make boilers in pairs, a combi and a heat only/system boiler have a look at the last 3 major models ideal have made. Response/Minimser, Isar/Icos and now the Logic each 1 is trash. There is probably no Response/Minimsers left, most Isar/Icos eat through heat exchangers and PCBs and the logic, although relatively new are going through sumps and flow switchs like its going out of fashion.

Now I like Worcester and see loads probably the most common boiler out in peoples homes, there warranty is industry leading but for it be top for the last 7yrs is fishy, they have there faults and I would say there not any more reliable then any of the other top manufacturers so for them to be too for the last 7yrs I find odd.
