O/S Daily Monday 19th March 2018

This is an !!!8220;over the garden fence!!!8221; type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It!!!8217;s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we!!!8217;re going to do today or what we!!!8217;ve achieved already. Everyone!!!8217;s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn!!!8217;t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don!!!8217;t post large pictures, or clip art !!!8211; links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don!!!8217;t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, snow still laying but looks to be slowly thawing a bit, bitterly cold still though.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, he'll be hopeful for Monday morning pancakes as there's some yorkshire pud batter leftover from yesterday.

Lunch yesterday was a lovely joint of roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc in cheese sauce, carrots, HG purple sprouting broc, peas, yorkshires and gravy. Dinner tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg or gammon, egg, chips and peas - will decide which later.

We visited the parents yesterday morning - all seems to be ok with them both.

Back to work today for me and this week it's my Saturday to work so will be needing to get as much done Thursday and Friday as possible. The engineer should be coming back to the fridge freezer with the spare parts on Friday too.

They say it comes in 3's - the thermostatic controller for our new boiler seems to not be working - the boiler didn't turn on yesterday afternoon or come on this morning - so I've had to use the boilers settings/controls - I'll be texting the heating engineer later - hopefully that's the third and final thing!

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Thanks for the birthday wishes, I had a fab weekend. DS2 arrived from NL on Friday night, we went for brunch with DD on Saturday and saw friends in the evening. Yesterday was great, we all went for lunch with DDs BF too and met up with DS1, the first time we have all been together for about 6 years. Everyone got on ok and we had a good catch up. More friends came round in the evening and I got some lovely gifts.

Got up at 4 this morning to take DS2 to the airport for his early morning flight, the motorway was closed on the way back so had to go on a long detour so didn't bother going back to bed.

DS2s bed has been stripped and washed, DW on and a general tidy up done. All ready for a day at work now!

Hope you are all well and coping with the snow and ice. Thankfully we only had a little snow that has all gone now but it's mighty cold.

    Take care. XX

    Morning :hello:

I've been out and about with Scampi a lot lately. Sometimes he's happy to amble about, checking the local pee-mail, lol, but mostly he's pulling to get to where he wants to be !!!8211; the park. The words I use to get him to walk nicely with me are being ignored (!!!8220;with me!!!8221;, the word heel has never worked), so I just stay silent and stop walking. He's quickly learned that if the lead is tight he won't be moving and it's boring. He's seen a few of his mates lately too so he's a happy, relaxed boy at the moment. No doubt he'll find something new to stress about soon and put me to work again :D We had a decent amount of snow over the weekend, he's decided it's his new favourite thing and sits at the window watching it fall, his little head going from side to side, lol. I take him out and it's almost impossible to get him back in again.

My legs are aching from all the walking so it's doing me some good, my hip is protesting but it's not painful like before so I'm just going to carry on.

I've been getting the housework done early every day then doing a bit of work. The rest of the day is about walking and crocheting things to sell and I don't want any interruptions. Mr tru is off work this week so it's going to be a struggle to keep up with things, I'm already looking forward to saturday, when he goes back in :D

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Light cloud and breezy forecast for today - what, no snow!!!!! We are getting spoiled!

After a week of trips, treats 'n eats last week we are back to the norm this week. Medical appointments commandeering 3 days and hair cuts to fit in for the pair of us at some point too. Still trying to get through to someone at the Urology clinic at St James re the non-arrival of Mr TA's stent op date and it's now 5 weeks since he had the pre-op assessment. I shall resume ringing today - this is really beginning to try my patience now!

I suppose I had better flick the duster and whizz the vac around this morning it's looking well in need after a lazy weekend. I also want to stock up on soup and make a big pan of something. Probably Pea & Ham. There are some veg leftovers from yesterday in the fridge so they will go with whatever I drag from the freezer for dinner tonight.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely who want them. Thanks NELS for keeping us up to date with news from HOLLY. I so feel for the poor lass isolated from friends and family but hope the w/e's visits from her bro cheered her up a bit. Take care all xx

    Good morning everyone.

It’s a beautiful morning here, bright sky, clear air and the sea is sparkling. Blooming freezing still.

Camelot - lovely to hear you had such a great birthday.

Today I have a teaching session first thing. My cleaner is coming so I whizz round last tidying up. I really don’t like an untidy place but do tend to leave things lying around sometimes. My new challenge is to put at least one unwanted item in the bin every day. Yesterday it was the long broken small wall clock on the mantelpiece...gone.

The chicken and chorizo I cooked yesterday will do me for the next three days so that’s sorted.

I hope that everyone is doing well or getting better and wish you all a Happy Monday.

Morning. It's fine, dry and bright here, and the weekend's snow has frozen. I think it has to get a bit warmer this week though.

Nmlc, 3 of our appliances went off over about 18 months, and cost a frightening amount of money to replace. Hope yours get sorted out.
Camelot, sounds as though you had a lovely birthday.

I wasn't out at all yesterday, just did a bit of cooking for the freezer. Just basic stuff, bolognese, minestrone soup, mince and onion to be used in various ways. I might do chicken curry today to freeze, I got a good offer from M*kro of chicken thighs a couple of weeks ago. It'll all come in handy if things are a bit hectic when DD has her baby. Dh nipped down to Morries for some veg I'd forgotten on Saturday, and that was it really.

This morning I'm visiting an elderly friend, will do the usual housework, and might even get a bit of washing out, whoo hoo.

I hope Holly is ok, and thoughts to everyone who is not well.

    Take care folks.
  • An afterthought! I was going to thank JACKIE and ELONA for their input on the Pro King as I have been thinking about one too. They get brilliant reviews and I thought one might come into it's own when I have the new kitchen fit mid April, when I will be without cooking facilities, other than the mw and sc. I was frightened to death of the old pressure cookers hissing and steaming at me when I was young but these sound far more civilised!

I think Dumpling has one too, she might give more insight than me as I am a poor cook , I like watching cookery shows but thats as much as I do.

TA I too wasn't keen on the old ones as the noise they made terrified me, but these new ones are so simple to use and safe I am definitely going to get one with my left over Christmas cash this week, just waiting for the snow to go a bit more first :)

Just about fed up with the cold snowy weather now, its been a very loooong winter and its high time we had a bit of sunshine I think. Not much on today ,a bit of pottering around indoors then round to DDs for the boys coming in from school this afternoon I may make them some chocolate chip cookies this morning as a treat.
Hope all are warm and dry and safe

    Cheers chums JackieO xx

    Good morning all

    Belated birthday wishes to Camelot

Thank you nelski for keeping us updated, my thoughts are with holly.

Still cold but the snow is melting. Think we'll wait until tomorrow before going out, the wind sounds wicked, so probably ice on the pavements. We have fresh milk for another day but UHT milk in the cupboard.
Haven't heard from DS. Don't need anything, but it would be nice to have a phone call or email just to ask if we are ok.

Hope you all have a good day, stay safe and warm

    Morning Everyone,

Sunny but the Snow is still laying on the ground - will have to leave for slightly earlier .
Well the Deputyship has come through so now I have to sort out setting everything up with my moms bank. Will make appointment for later this week. I have training this afternoon at work, and I have to inform my mom tomorrow that myself and my daughter will be managing her affairs from now on.
Visited mom Friday afternoon she is going downhill again. Walking is very difficult for her.
Best get moving. Monday is a SC meal.

Have a good day all x
