Store/Chain Name: Apple Store (UK)
Can you return goods without a problem? Ie you bought it and changed your mind... is this alloed: Within 14 days no quibble even if opened and used, within 28 days return in re-sellable condition i.e. sealed.
Does it offer a full refund or credit note? Full refund.
Did you need to have your receipt/a copy of the credit-card statement? Receipt or card you paid with to track transaction, from any store. No chance if we can't track the transaction.
Is there any time limit? Is it seasonal? 14/28 days, last year there was a return policy for Christmas, along the lines of if brought after 1st December then you can return it up until end of Jan. Unopened only. Not sure about this year yet.
Are you a customer or employee/former employee? Employee
Anything else people should know...? Online orders can't be returned in any stores.0 -
I was refused a refund at M&S when I returned an item that did not fit because I did not have the receipt - even though the item was still new and in the bag. They said they could only exchange if it was faulty. Things change.... And may indeed have changed since!
Please don't edit my posts! What I actually said was:
I would not say that M&S is as flexible as it used to be:- Marks and Spencer
- Goods can be returned for whatever reason
- Full refund offered by whatever means paid as long as you have your receipt
- Yes, otherwise you will only receive credit note to the current selling value of the item
- 90 days
- Customer
- They are now much stricter on the time limit. Though it is still very generous, it used to be pretty much open ended
Gone ... or have I?0 -

I have taken an item back to them which it didn't think did what it says it was going to do, without a receipt and some months after I bought it and they gave me my money back without comment. Also on a mail order I wasn't happy with something and they gave me a refund and told me to keep the goods. I think they are the best company ever I have dealt with for this kind of thing and as such it has made me favour them over their competitors when deciding who to buy from.
My friend bought from Lakeland and wasn't satisfied with the purchase so telephoned them and they not only refunded her money to her card but said dont sent the item back, just donated it to a charity of her choice.
Wow, thinks me, now thats good, but I hope it doesn't get abused....** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0 -
- Store/Chain Name: HMV
- Can you return goods without a problem? Ie you bought it and changed your mind... is this allowed: Yes, up to 21 days even if it's been opened (but it must be in a saleable condition)
- Does it offer a full refund or credit note? Gift cards. They do refund on faulty items, but you'll need to really twist their arms and probably only the manager can do it
- Did you need to have your receipt/a copy of the credit-card statement? Almost always on unwanted items, and often for faulty items. If you still have the HMV barcode sticker on the box they can be more lenient. Usually a supervisor will need to ok anything without a receipt.
- Is there any time limit? Is it seasonal? They usually extend the period for Christmas purchase returns until the end of January.
- Are you a customer or employee/former employee? Customer
- Anything else people should know... All receipts now have a barcode, and staff are required to scan this when you bring an item back. They can override this, but this is what the supervisor is needed for. Only supervisors seem to be able to give gift-card credits - I traipsed around the Oxford Street store for ten minutes with one befuddled employee as he tried to find somebody with the right system access!

Actually, that changed recently, you now can't have a gift card. It's a refund to the payment method with receipt within 28days if it was full price.
If it was 50% off or more and you return it, then it's exchange only unless you have a Debenhams card
you can have a gift card if you have the reciept, otherwise you cant. I thought thats how it worked0 -
I bought baby toys on a 3 for 2 basis in a Boots city store, decided a few days later that they were not suitable. Rang the customer service to ask if I could return them to a local store rather than travel 30 miles again, I could, they were fantastic, a friendly helpful person on the phone. Returned them to a local store that did not even sell toys, no questions asked.0

We had the same experience of buying a Freeview box from Argos that was ('scuse my French) a piece of crap. (I'm guessing it was the same one!) We were given a full refund because my other half just stood his ground and argued, v politely, that it wasn't fit for purpose (you couldn't record programmes through it as there was no way to plug in a VCR). He didn't even have to argue very hard before they gave in, so don't be fobbed off, as no item is truly "non-returnable". You just have to stay v polite and sound authorative. (I'm crap at this - I start getting angry - so I always send my OH.) We actually had the same experience with a phone we bought from them a couple of years ago, which should have been non-returnable but which we returned.0

Do not go to Comet
Although not a computer whiz kid I purchased a laptop in early July within weeks I had been back to the shop as it kept crashing. Although the staff agreed "something" was wrong would not refund me my money. I had a long correspondence with head office who sent my laptop off twice for this to be looked at. Each time coming back "nothing wrong". I am so fed up now, I cannot use it, I have lost the joy of having a laptop. My trading standards seemed a little cool when I went to see them. Comet said that if I took this to an independent retailer to look at and they open up the back, then this would void any guarantee I have. I even wrote to the Chairman, but still no good.
All I can do is if you go to COMET - BE WARY0 -

i dont know about electrical items but i recently brought some clothing which i took back, they would only refund to the source of original payment (was great as hubby was out of the uk working). you have 28 days to return items to get back the price you paid, if its over the 28 days i was told you get back the price which the item is currently selling at.0
