Rental prices - negotiable?

If you don't ask, you don't get. Not all landlords will discount, but some will - none will be offended. Ask for 5% off (or more if the flat's been empty a long time or seems overpriced).
The worst they can say is no.0 -
Have I been reported to someone? What does that mean? I've only just registered this evening!

A house, like anything else, is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. The LL thinks it is worth X a month, you think it is worth Y.
If the property has only just become vacant, the LL will probably hold out for X. If it had been vacant for some time, the LL (if he has 1/4 of brain or more) will realise it is only worth Y.
There are a lot of places that have been vacant for some time, and a lot of LL who can afford to take Y and still break even.
To sum up: Theres blood in the water.Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0 -
