Another very snowy day here, I won't be going anywhere. Hope everyone is warm and safe.
Gers, re your phone call for your Mum I remember a similar call after my husband died. I rang to ask to change the car insurance over to my name explaining that my husband had died. The call handler asked me if I had my husbands permission to do this! Unbelievable.
I remember saying have you not heard what I have said and asking to speak to a supervisor. She was very nice and apologised. Very different experiences with the Bank and BT both who had dedicated bereavement departments.
Off now to cook some chicken that has defrosted overnight, I doubt the family will get here today to help eat it.0 -

Indeed Happy Birthday to all of the super folk on here and TA your DD sounds a determined lady to walk 5 miles in the snow to get to work.I do hope she gets a lift home OK.
Last night although we had a dollop of snow it wasn't too bad and the roads syayed a bit icy but drivable. My eldest DD invited my to her house for dinner as she had her ma-in-law staying. They had been due to go down to her caravan in Deal for the weekend but decided with the forecasted snow not to bother. So instead we were treated to lambs shanks made in her OH's fancy new digital food pressure cooker.I must admit it was delicious and I am sorely tempted to get one Its a King Pro
and the food was beautifully cooked, the meat just fell off the bones .My son-in-law Ashley loves new gadgets and its his latest baby.
My sis-in-law from Faversham said she may pop up later this moning if the snow is OK so I am going to make some rock cakes for a change this morning, I have a fancy for something different
Hope everyone is warm and dry and HollyH will soon be back with us again.
Take care all

Morning
Happy birthday camelot hope you are having a lovely day :bdaycake:
dp1 sorry to hear about your daughter hope she gets well soon
Holly had a lovely day with her bro and hes coming along today too with his wife so another few hours out. Apparently the nurses have been saying that they dont think she should be on section but she is now worried that if they remove the section she will end up back in hospital due to the med changeover. Shes very confused and not at all sure what is for the best...I just hope the docs know what they are doing but i'm afraid i doubt it.
Someone came and sprinkled a bit of sugar over night but its pretty much gone now. Off out for lunch with a friend today so no cookingReally fancy a full sunday lunch with all the trimmings in fact I could quite happily eat it now ...best have some toast
Should actually be staying home and cleaning but I am easily persuaded otherwise.
Hope everyone has a nice warm indoor day if the snow has hit you...hope nanny is OK Im doubting her lunch with her dad will happy in this weather0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one. Happy Birthday to the birthday girls, have a good day.
Thank you Nelski for letting us know about Holly, I hope she is soon out of there, her treatment has been really barbaric.
We have had about 6 inches of snow overnight, its quite soft, I used the empty coal shovel to shovel to the coal house and fill the coal bucket, the fire is crackling away. I must remember tonight to get coal in before it gets dark, in case we need it tomorrow.
Our usual breakfast in bed this morning, a shower, OH says his back is not itchy, so keeping my fingers crossed, am putting the ointment on at night so it gets a chance to soak in.
Pork for supper with roast spuds, cauli, calabrese and carrot, I am going freezer diving for fruit to make a crumble for dessert, no cream but we do have some ice cream. I know we have apple and there are a few gooseberries in the kitchen freezer.
Bust week I need to steam clean the wet room tomorrow, Tuesday OH needs a haircut, Thursday is Aldi day and Friday we are going over to see my quilting friend. She tells me she has been clearing out in the garage and has a load of Christmas fabric for me!!
I did get to the sewing machine the other day, just to make a cover for a pack of tissues that had been lying about for ages. Need to get my brain into gear.
Right its morning tea time, so off for a cuppa........0 -
Morning all,
We woke to 4 inches of snow and no water......wonderful! DS 3 has been with the paper ....he has a 4x4 so has been dispatched for water. It is still snowing with no sign of easing off so it will be a couch day, there is leftover beef from yesterday, lots of veg and spuds,so food is not a problem.
A niece's partner has died in West of Ireland, wake is tomorrow (we have them before the funeral here) and burial is on Tuesday. DD1 and DS3 will go tomorrow and depending on weather, OH and I will go on Tuesday.
We had a lovely afternoon with OH's sister yesterday.....she had invited us to watch the rugby and an early dinner. She has been a widow for 5 years, while she has a daughter and grandchildren nearby she loves to have sibling visitors.
Congratulations on your new car nmlc, drive safely.
Glad to hear that Holly is having more visitors today.....thanks for keeping us up to date Nelski.
TA....well done to your DD on her 5 mile walk....I hope that she doesnt have to walk the return journey.
Happy birthday Camelot.
dp1.....I hope that your daughter is recovering well.
Stay safe and warm everybody.

Morning all.
Guess what ? We're snowed in again ! :snow_laug It started about 10pm and hasn't stopped, it seems it's in for the rest of the day too. I hope we can get out tomorrow afternoon as we are having a tow bar fitted on the car. We'll be ok if we can get to the main road, so fingers crossed.
I rang Dad this morning and he asked what time is lunch ( jokingly ) so I said about Wednesday :rotfl:. He was very upbeat despite some idiot woman ringing him at 4am, probably got the wrong number as she staggered out of a club somewhere . I made sure Dad has enough food and he's doing himself potatoes, peas and corned beef for his lunch.
We had the snow plough across earlier and the carers have managed to get to Joan, but now the road has disappeared again.
DD text me yesterday with pictures of a chocolate cake she had made, she promised to bring some up today, but apparently she can't get here. I don't understand why :rotfl:. By the way that cake looked yummy and I'm disappointed. I suppose I could make my own but it wouldn't be the same.
Not much "work" ( that's such a dirty word in my book ) going on today, but we have a couple of films ready to watch and I need to cut my fringe, because the old english sheepdog look is out this year.
No Sunday lunch so tea will be chicken fried rice and a curry sauce, followed by ice cream. Easy :T
AOD thanks for "Scrubbage", the word not the actual doing of it. I hope the coach turns up, I have everything crossed that it does.
Nelski no Sunday lunch to cook :j. Tell the truth, did you order this snow just for today(:D:D) Enjoy your meal :A. Thanks for the Holly update. Poor thing she won't know whether she's coming or going
.
dp1 I hope your DD is ok and on the road to recovery.
NMLC :T re the new car.
Camelot very many happy returns of the day. :bdaycake:
Snoozer glad you're having a lovely time. Enjoy !
Take care all, keep safe and warm. The hug bucket is brimming over for anyone who is in need.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Jackie,
we have a Pressure King Pro as well, it is full of pasta for dinner at the moment and it smells yum.
It is only used by my husband though as I haven't learnt how to use it yet.0 -
Happy Birthday to the birthday girls!
I am terribly upset, next dor's icicles are way better than ours.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Hoppy Birdday Camelot.
GWS wishes to dp1's DD.
I was out in the nasty cold white stuff again at sparrowfart this morning; luckily there wasn't enough of it to preclude use of the mobility buggy, so I was able to give Lizzie her walk.
She's due to be picked up in about 2 hours; we're really going to miss her, specially as my next guests don't arrive til 28th March.
Mr LW has marked up yet another execrable film to be recorded; he originally marked up two, but I pointed out that the 2nd one was on the other week, and was ghastly first time around, and did we really have to sit through it again?
I really wish we had another room I could retreat to while he watches tv; however he usually switches on to start watching a programme or film just as I serve dinner, so I'm stuck with it. 99% of the films he selects are rubbish, and weekly series are lost on me, as by the time we watch episode 2, I've forgotten what happened in episode 1.So even if he selects a halfway watchable series, I don't really enjoy it.
I have an @ldi shopping list, but I'm feeling more than a little groggy today (snow always gives me a beastly headache) so it'll wait til tomorrow. That way, too, I don't need to leave Lizzie on her own.I have all I need to do tonight's dins - veggie toad-in-the-hole with Marmite gravy. And we can use up the last little bit of Xmas pud; I made four, with a view to using them over the Winter, and it's worked well, we shall finish up the last just before Ostara, which is the start of Spring in my book.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
