O/S Daily Sunday 18th March 2018

This is an !!!8220;over the garden fence!!!8221; type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It!!!8217;s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we!!!8217;re going to do today or what we!!!8217;ve achieved already. Everyone!!!8217;s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn!!!8217;t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don!!!8217;t post large pictures, or clip art !!!8211; links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don!!!8217;t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

We have a light covering of snow, but the roads seems clear, it's just the side roads that have not been gritted, wind is still blustery and bitter too.

Dinner last night was chicken curry, veg curry, rice and accompaniments - all eaten and enjoyed. Roast pork and all the trimmings for lunch today.

DH and myself went to look at some little cars for me, as I've had mine for 10+ years and although it's ok at the moment it is going to need work and money spent on it to get it through the MOT at the end of April, and so have found another that's newer and I'm happy with it, I'll be picking it up next weekend. I wasn't impressed with my insurance company - I rang them to inform them of the change after I'd done a price comparison on the website and it came out slightly cheaper than what I'm paying now with the same company, so rang to advise of the change and they wanted to charge an additional fee. I'd paid my insurance annually last August when it renewed - told them I wasn't happy and that if there was any additional premiums between now and the renewal date I'd be taking my business elsewhere bearing in mind the price comparison was giving a cheaper quote. Magically the operator found a "discount" that she could apply and that covered the whole additional premium??!!

We were ages at the garage as I road tested 3 different cars and the one I thought I wanted neither of us liked it - it was a horrible colour, and was very basic and small inside, the only good thing was very low miles, but I just didn't like it and wasn't comfortable driving it. The one I've chosen is very similar to what I already have but is cheaper insurance and tax.

Today we're hoping to get to visit the parents as we were going to go yesterday afternoon but didn't get.

Keep safe and well x

Not quite as snowed in as we were a couple of weeks ago but bad enough and the snow is still coming.

Not sure what the day will bring but I'm hoping it will be better than yesterday.

Good news about the car Nmlc So exciting.

    Onwards and forwards

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Well done at sticking to your guns and arguing it out with the insurance co.

The forecast heavy snow duly arrived through the night and thanks to the gale force wind we have deep drifts everywhere. DD is on early shift (starts 7.00) and once again is having to walk to work. It's going on 5 miles and not an easy walk in snow and wind. She is texting me when she gets there as she knows how I worry. Surely this must be the last lot we get - Mr King the amateur forecaster was right wasn't he?

Not much planned for today but must strip our bed when Mr TA vacates it and get that all washed. One thing for sure it won't be getting pegged out and will be festooning the upstairs again!

Not bothering with a big Sunday lunch today it's going to be a Shepherds Pie for us. Left the mince in the slow cooker over night and it's smelling lovely. I have done double quantity so there's enough to freeze half for another time, or maybe a plate pie.

Have a good day folks if you can ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely who want them. I hope HOLLY enjoyed her afternoon with her brother yesterday. Take care all xx

Editing to add DD just texted, she has got to work safely but feels worn out battling the snow and wind all that way. She is just hoping there will be someone to give her a lift back and, if not, that the buses are running and she hasn't to walk back. She hates bl**dy snow more than I do!

Morning everyone and thanks for the start nmlc.

We’ve not had much snow overnight, just a dusting really, but just been out to top up the bird feeders and it is absolutely bitter out there. We hang all the feeders in our apple tree and after 10+ years the birds know what’s coming and all sit in the tree waiting for their breakfast.
Not much planned for today, have left DOH in bed having a lie-in but once he gets up will do bacon butties and fresh coffee, then there is the Archers omnibus to listen to.
Don’t really fancy doing a big roast but did take some chicken thighs out of the freezer so will do something with those, have some peppers and chorizo in the fridge so probably a spainish type stew.

Have a good day folks, hope Holly enjoyed her brother’s visit and RR is feeling a bit better x

    Morning everyone.

Still no snow here, the sky is blue, the wind has calmed down and the air is freezing. Last night the sky was cloudless and all the stars were twinkling away. I lay in bed and just watched them for ages thinking about Van Gogh and Dr Who (my favourite episode).

Congratulations on the new car nmlc - exciting news. I hope it serves you well.

I spent a lot of time yesterday dealing with the sale of DMs car. There is lots of great advice online about selling privately which I made sure she followed, especially about both parties having a copy of the receipt. DM couldn not find the VIN number so I scanned in my logbook to show her. The DVLA now has a system to inform them of change of ownership online so that was easy. Insurance company not so. Seems that whilst her documentation says Sainsburys on it her insurance is with two brokers ago.

When I eventually got to the right place and explained, for the third time, what needed to be done I got the standard question

is your mother there with you?

No, you have a copy of my POA on your system

    Oh, is she dead

    No!

Think I was a little sharp with agent! Anyway, done. A £35 administration fee later and a small refund is winging DMs way.

No idea what today will bring me or take me too. Still basking in the glory of Scotland beating Italy. Great match.

I hope everyone is doing well or getting better. Happy Sunday.

Morning all. We've got quite a bit of snow here, and it's still falling. The wind is whipping it up, which doesn't help.
We had the best night last night at the show we went to in Newcastle, it was excellent.

I don't think we'll be going out today, we don't need anything, and there's stuff I can be doing here.

Glad you've got your car sorted NMLC.

I hope everyone has a good day, thoughts to the poorly people.

    Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off nmlc , and congratulations on the new car.

    Snow and thick ice here.
I hardly ever get a phone call or text message so when my phone made a noise yesterday my first thought was DS was making sure we are ok. How silly of me, it was just a text trying to sell me insurance.

Thinking of Holly, hope she enjoyed her afternoon.

Hope you all have a good day, stay safe and warm.
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.

    Morning everyone
We have a covering of snow probably a couple of inches - would like to just stay cosy in bed!
Youngest DD was taken into hospital on Friday with bad stomach pain - thought she had appendicitis. Our hospital is an hour and a half drive away and I don't drive! We were also told Thursday that Ofsted were coming on Friday!. DD is 19 and said she was fine on her own and I kept in regular contact with the hospital. Inspection went well - but it was a long day!
I planned to go visit DD on Friday night but when I rang she was having surgery. Ended up not being her appendix, but she had cysts removed. One had burst which was why she was in so much pain. She had exactly the same thing almost four years ago.She was transferred to another hospital yesterday - slightly further away! - as she hadn't been able to keep any food down. Hopefully she'll be discharged at some point today.
I've texted her this morning but no answer as yet.

Morning all! Lots of snow here, it snowed for much of yesterday but it was so windy that much of it blew away (where to?) and then it started to settle later in the afternoon. I think it probably snowed all night and I know that it has not really stopped since 4 because I've been watching. At present it is fat, lazy flakes and we've got some good icicles.

I hope that Holly had a good afternoon with her DB, 3 or 4 weeks sounds so long when you are low.

Nanny I think I'm responsible for the Friday Tidy and tge Saturday Scrubbage, they are not interesting activities, even if rewarding, so I give them silly names. That reminds me, I've forgotten to do any ironing again.

I'm not doing anything outdoors today, I'm going to listen to the howling wind and do some knitting, I made 3 bears last week, each wearing a knitted onesie and today I must get going on baby blankets.

Later on I'll do dinner, roast pork, stuffing which I usually make first thing but have not yet got round to, roasties, yorkshires as the freezer now contains an awful lot of them and veg. I don't really like roast pork but apparently it was reduced. OH has not bought me an apple so no apple sauce, and I don't think I'll bother eating any pork.

My hands are cold but my feet are nice and warm, DS bought me uggalike slippers.I'm not dressed because I don't fancy the cold bit in between pj removal and putting on proper clothes. I will in a minute.

I'm dreading ringing my mum. She's booked a holiday that starts tomorrow and is meant to be collected by coach from her apartment, if the holiday is postponed she will take it as a personal insult and will be very upset and cross. I should have thought that coaches have winter tyres, hope so.

Have as good a day as possible!
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

dp1, I hope your dd is doing ok now, what a worry. Still thinking of Holly.

I've been outrageously spoiled by my lovely family. I'm not being allowed to lift a finger. The cottage is lovely - a big barn conversion but it's a tad chilly because of the outside conditions. Plenty of snow in Gloucestershire.

DH and DD had arranged for a chef to come in and cook a beautiful meal last night, it felt really special. On top of that I had some lovely presents, including a couple of nights in Bath including a visit to the spa there which, if I had a bucket list, would be on it.
  • Morning all.
Thanks for the thread nmlc, good news about your car.
Hugs to all those in need especially Holly.
Snoozer, glad you are having a good time.
    Sorry about your dd dp1.
AOD, I hope your mum's holiday goes ahead.
We have snow here,, a few inches and it's still coming down so I got up to top the stove up and then came back to bed.
We have lamb shank for lunch.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
