Just popping in to say hello since it's probably been a couple of years since I posted on this thread. Thought I would update with how we are doing.

We have been on our DMP for 12 years now with about another 15  to go. We originally were going to be 32 years if I remember correctly so we have managed to knock 5 years off. Our mortgage is due to end in 10 years but by paying our emergency fund and house maintenance allowance that the DMP allows, into the mortgage as long as we don't end up needing it back that knocks three years off that so we'll be able to add the mortgage payments to the dmp earlier knocking a further few years off that. Still seems to be taking forever but we will get there in the end.

  • It is a long and winding road that's for sure, I remember my optimism when I first joined of been debt free by now but life gets in the way and as I have learned not every last penny can be put to debt I need to survive at the same time. I cringe when I think back to my lbm :0 I do enjoy this thread and although I'm not always here I like to read and it will be lovely when I get to post my own debt free declaration.
welcome to the newbies :) keep posting keep positive and as much as debt is a chain round your neck its also a learning curve and it wont be gone over night therefore make it fit in to your life as best as you can, after years of not been able to get 0% credit cards or lower percent loans we were able to earlier last year which meant intrest reduced and we were able to maintain same payments but pay more. In that time ive also had a baby so trying to balance things nicely has been a learning curve. I will be celebrating in style when I have paid it all off and seeing that glimmer of light for me is amazing :). Happy Saturday all x

could I just ask of the long haulers how you've found creditors to being on a long term DMP do they pressure you do they threaten and take legal action or are they generally content that if you are making efforts that's enough?

Am shortly about to become a long haul DMP and wondered how you've all found it

On the whole they haven't been a problem, at least not since the first few months when we would get phonecalls etc but once they started receiving the payments from stepchange the phonecalls all dropped off. BOS ask for an updated budget every six months but other than that the rest are happy with the annual one. Some of the debts have changed hands two or three times over the years but we just keep making the same payments. We had one last year who told stepchange they were not accepting the amount they had been budgeted but SC said they would just carry on paying them that amount as that was all there was and we haven't heard anything since. That was with the amount going up slightly at our annual budget review.
