  • Im feeling completely and utterly fed up. I know that each month im chipping away at the debt so eventually it will be gone but it isnt happening quick enough for my liking. I feel like im getting nowhere which is daft because ive cleared £2k so far so things are moving in the right direction. How can i perk myself up again? I go from being really motivated to really deflated - i cant seem to find the middle ground.

Our DMP will run for just short of 7 years and our original debt was almost 46k - when I looked at that figure, I was so dis-heartened and 7 years (originally 11years) seemed so far away.

I decided to set myself a series of achievable milestones along the way and I find that this does keep me motivated and on track. I set things like percentage paid off so far, first debt under 1k, highest debt under 6k, 5k, 4k and so on, dipping under 40k, 35k, 30k etc.

As time passes you find that you reach your milestones much more quickly and you then see that you really are making a dent in your debt.

I now have 2 debts under 1k and my next big milestone will be to clear the first of my 11 debts.

    Take care
    Ellie xx
  • I have finally done it. in the last year I have paid back nearly £23K. It has been a sacrafice, I had to use the cards at one point and things got a bit hairy, but now, I am finally rid of debt for the second time in my life.

I now need to start saving and really get on my way to getting on the property ladder. Thank you for all your words of encouragement. This time last year I didn't think it would ever happen.

You need to get yourself over to the debt free roll of honour thread so that you get your Debt free badge!

Very well done on clearing that amount in a year;)

  • Congratulations to the two of you for clearing your debt.

I'm 2 1/2 years in and after a fed up ness a little while ago threw myself in to making headway in clearing the debt, it feels great to have made the progress but have hit another bump in the road, sick of watching the pennies, sick of my plans being on hold, sick of how long this is taking aaaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhh

Remember that it didn't build up over night and to get rid of it is like eating an elephant- 1 mouthful at a time. Can you build some treats into your budget then you've got something to look forward to? How long have you got to go?

  • It is hard going-nowhere-fast, but you will get there.

Every week you are getting that bit closer to being debt free. I understand your frustration though.

Keep going and kill that debt. :)
