  • Hellow lovely DFW'ers!
  • we are 10 months into our DMP and our debt free date is 2020..
having lived beyond our means for the past few years, we have found the last year a real struggle with no cards to fall back on..

all my pay goes on the mortgage, CCCS and our direct debits, and my wifes p/t income of £600 is then all we have for living on, after food shopping and fuel for her to get to work, theres not a great deal left to live life, and trying to even save anything for emergencies is really hard..... something always comes up..

last month the car had mot, needed 4 tyres and tax was up all in the same month which took all our cash and we had to go almost the whole month on about £100 of food...

but we are struggling on, happy that the balance is finally coming down and not constantly increasing month on month...
might be 9yrs to debt free but if we had carried on as we were and not started the DMP, it would have been probably my life insurance that paid it off as we'd be in debt for another 40 or 50yrs...
  • I need to sit down and have a proper look at my number and make plans I've been taking my eye off the ball and numbers are coming down but they could come down faster with some planning :-) but things pop up such as life but we will all get there :-) x

Hi, please can I join this group? I have been trying to pay off my debts for 5 years now (not very successfully though, going up and down all the time - more up than down!). and still need to pay off around £23,000 excluding interest and excluding my student loan. I'm aiming to try and do it over the next 3 years but think I may be being a bit ambitious.

I reached a real low yesterday and thats why I decided to join the forums on here for some much needed support. I'm not really sure how all this works yet so just trying to work it all out.

I really don't want to get a DRP but am considering combining a few debts together at a lower interest rate if I can get this. My credit rating is already a mess but my aim is to buy a house with my boyfriend in 3 years time so I need to get debt free by then with the least amount of credit rating damage. I do already have a mortgage on a small house but the only way I got it was to put my dad on the mortgage and for him to lend me the deposit which I have to give back on sale of the house. So obviously my current mortgage isn't long term.

Well I've tried to look on the positive side today and phoned my bank and managed to make £204 (£174 charges refund and £30 compensation for a complaint - long story!). So I am making a bit of a start and also just about keeping up my monthly repayments of £815 which doesn't include my mortgage.

So thats me in a nutshell...any advice/support is greatly appreciated!
  • Hi and welcome :-) well done on the reclaim! Have you posted an soa on main board? My advice be honest with yourself and your budget remember Rome wasn't built in a day and as much as we wish it would all go by yesterday we can't beat ourselves up its only numbers :-) we are here to support eachother. Look forward to following your quest x

  • Sigh. I was a DFW 3 years ago, and if everything had gone well I would have been clear now. Instead we owe more than when we started.

My daughter was (still is) seriously ill, and it has sent me on a spending spiral. I am trying to get to grips with this again, so hoped I could rejoin and start afresh.

I need to stop this rubbish so that we can start working towards clearing the debt and moving on in our lives.

Even though the amount is huge, if we get on with it, we should be clear in under 4 years. I just need to switch off the voice in my head telling me I should treat them...
