All the support and news on here has helped me a great deal that's for sure even when I felt I wasn't getting anywhere and it was all in vain.

TEK's plan inspired me to look at my own situation in more detail and see if I could plan some of the things I had been thinking about.

As it turns out I owe around 10K over 4 CCs and I am hoping to pay off £1000 this year and then £3000 over each of the next 2-3 years aiming to finish by the 2012 Olympics.

Any surprise money that comes in will go straight onto the CCs to repay eg a tax refund.

This is really going to be a long haul over the next 3yrs - it will be well worth it by the end. Then I can maybe start doing the house up when this is over ;) I can't get into more debt to do it up whilst I owe all this

  • FedUpAndSkint,
I couldn't agree more, I have had so much motivation from this site, and particularly this thread since joining. We have tried many times to sort our debt out and it has always ended badly, and this time its working, I know its really early days but our debt has decreased each month since the start of this year, and a lot of that is down to coming on here and getting the support and motivation needed.
Lots of folk seem to be doing really well lately, I shall keep on and hopefully be able to add my own good news soon!

well done fuas! Alas one of the fish kicked it so one left..tricky with such a small bowl and no filter so fingers crossed for this one! Was very good yesterday on shopping trip - got nitol andthat was it...also resisted wool which was a major achievement!! very chuffed with myself! Also really pleased that people get support on here...so hard for people to understand the absolute bind of long term debt....my months vary but have realised how much not claiming my travel expenses makes a difference and this month will be 3 months owing which is good!!

It is a long road us long haulers have to travel. I am so impatient that I want it gone NOW. I know that isn't going to happen so we have to keep plodding on. I do get sick of saying no all the time but the children are pretty understanding for most of the time. Each month is a month nearer to freedom.

Some more small steps in moneysaving today!

I've done something today I've put off for ages and reduced my health cashback plan by £8.68 today by going onto a lower plan.

I have this because I wear glasses and always need dental work and it enables me to pay for them and get the money back and I'm rubbish at saving. So reduced price is from £22.53 to £13.87 :D That's better :D

Plus when this next bit of dental work is done I'll have a go to reduce it further now I've discovered getting cheaper glasses saving £75 on what I usually spend.

just need to get rid of film 4 now and another £3.91 a month is mine.

That's nearly all the cutbacks I can make at the moment

Food - changed to lower branding levels

    Health cashback plan - reduced

Entertainment - will address Virgin Media when it is contract renewal time later on in the year and give notice on Film 4 and close account

What else is there? Gas and Elec ok for the moment, need to contact as cap ends later this year

I've been Money Tipped! Chutzpah Haggler
Well one of the things I have just done this last week is check my credit reports and there was about £9k of unused credit on there, even some cards that I cut up years ago and thought were closed but the accounts are still rolling over every month even though they are at zero balance. I have written to most of them to close them but there wasn't an address for Capital One so I phoned them up and they offered me a LOB at 6.5% instead of closing!!! was well impressed with that and managed to transfer some of the dreaded A&L visa balance onto it (34%!!!) this will hopefully make a huge difference considering we can't get a 0% deal anywhere at the moment

Otherwise doing well so far this month, I just want to get it under £30k and then I really feel we will have made some inroads into the debt, don't think I will manage that by xmas but by Nov we have another loan paid off so that's another £60 a month free, plus I will have another £200 freed up from something else that finishes then so by this time next year we could have paid off a lot more hopefully

great news millie - that will make it go even faster

well done for maying off that card fuas - you are doing great

I am so impatient at the moment because I have finally got my head on - and am now clearing our massive debts at about 1000 a month ( don't ask me how much on top in interest we are paying - it is too depressing!)

I am dying for September and October when I can start to earn some real good overtime again and get these cleared sooner

I am on a 24 month count down - whereby after 2 years another loan is gone and I can really start to throw the money at the high interest cards
Back to comping! July wins: Frylight August wins: Pixar DVD, Diesel Watch,£75 hamper brioche products September wins bath soak

Thanks to everyone who posts comps and help
  • Some good ideas there guys. I need to go through the unused ccs just to get rid. Gone from having just the loan to Loan and two ccs :(. Bonus is I still have good rates at the moment.

Next step for me is a new budget. Cant get motivated at the mo but Ill get around to it. Just trying to be careful with spends although Mcds today not helped :D

Some good news is that my debt didnt increase as I had feared.
