I feel a bit gutted TBH - I started overpaying this month as per my snowball calulator instructions on the first CCard. Then I decided to overpay on the same CC to get it down under £1000 - as I said in the post above - by using the money I'd saved from the Feb GC (£54).

WasdDead chuffed but just checked the statement to find on the same day they added on the interest - taking it back up to £1025 again  Bluergh, one step forward, 2 steps back ATM

Hi again, its good to hear that we are all continuing to try to strive and move forward with our debt, no matter how difficult it gets. Its hard not to get miserable when everywhere you turn it seems to be doom and gloom. I keep reminding myself to be grateful that I have a job and make sure I'm there for my friends and family who are at risk of losing their jobs - at the moment both my cousin and BIL are hanging by a thread at work - redundancies all round. my sister and BIL bought a bigger house last year with a bigger mortgage, although my sister works full-time, her salary is not enough to even cover all the bills etc.if BIL did lose his job. all i can do is offer her my love and support, wish i could help them financially, but cant. It does get you down, but keep trying to stay positive, theres got to be some good news out there somewhere! x

I know its tough...re the dentist etc those things really knock you when youre trying so hard. I remember in the early days when my car windscreen was smashed...nearly finished me off...does get better when you settle into a new way of life. Cant imagine life not being frugalish now! Dont regret a minute of it...have made some fab friends (real ones as well as internet ones!), paid off a reasonable amount (could have been more if I was really frugal but thats not me and never will be!) and can honestly say I am 100% happier now...know whats important to me, enjoy the odd treat but they are cheap treats rather than ones that cost hundreds of pounds!!
Hugs those struggling...we will get there in the end...just got to keep plodding!

  • Can I join this thread, please? There was a time when I thought I'd be a short hauler, but now I realise that I'm in for the long haul.:o

I've been in debt since the age of 18, so I guess old habits are hard to break. I was doing really well, but had a year long blip (a kind of madness) which means our debts are now higher than ever. :o

I feel like I've just come to my senses again, so I really want to get back into frugal living, when I actually felt much happier. During my year of mad spending I did feel quite guilty and worried underneath, but suppressed it, all too successfully.

I don't know how I could start spending again. I can only describe it as a
year of complete madness. Do you think spending can be an addiction?

I really want the support of other DFW's as I think that's the only way I can get through this and become a better person (who only buys what they can afford!) I think this thread will help me to be that person.

  • My dishwasher has stopped working, so my first big DFW decision is NOT to replace it (on the credit card) but to wash up in the sink until I can afford to buy it with cash.

Ds2 will need a tooth out at the dentist in the next week, but after that I'm going to ring every dentist in this region and try and find a national health dentist because I can't afford a private one. I think I spent over £1000 on dental bills last year, between the five of us.

Sorry to hear about your washing machine blacktaxi and I feel for you over the dentist (I hate dentist - they charge £70 for quarter of an hour, at least mine does, grrrrr  ).
