I once booked with Green Motion through a comparison site - I then realised how many stories like this there were and cancelled it immediately forfeiting my deposit!

EDIT: Might have already been mentioned, but always worth paying a few pounds for an independent car hire excess policy regardless of who you book with. I have it included on my Amex card, but have previously bought one for £5-ish (which is a lot less than the hire companies ask for).

    Hi guys,

Just had a terrible experience with GM in Glasgow. Returned the car in pristine condition, the guy walks to it and immediately (as if he knew before looking) 2 mini scratches that were probably already there (otherwise arguably normal wear and tear?).

Both can be polished out if you go to halfords and guy the right products. GM went on to tell me that the cost for these would be 630 quid!! I could not dispute it (GM told me) and i could choose to either pay or have them take it out of my 2.5k deposit. I choose the 2nd one.... anybody has experience in how to handle this now further?

I have pictures of the ‘damage’. I am quite sure i didn't do it but wont be able to proof that, so want to challenge on the basis that these scratches DO NOT COST 630 quid to repair. Email to their complaints department is step 1; CC co doesnt want to do anything as they say I pre-authorised a larger amount. Any other ways to put some pressure on them? Anyone with experience in claiming back some losses?

These cowboys were featured on Joe Lycett’s new consumer show on Channel 4 last week.

They put someone undercover working with them at Heathrow. Complete chancers and confirmed their shoddy practices that so many report online. They also hired a car that was near perfect other than a scratch on the alloy. Took it home, and literally wrapped it in bubble wrap for a few days. Took it back to Green Motion and low and behold the rep goes straight to the alloy scratch and charged them. Reports that employees were pocketing these outrageous damage charges and sharing them amongst themselves.

These guys make Goldcar look like car hirer of the year!

Jeez ... if i wasn't 630 quid out of pocket i would almost think it was funny. Icing on the cake was that they didn't want to drive me back to airport as i called them out on the scam and other clients overhead it, 20 minute walk with my luggage!

So... anybody got a suggestion how to get (part of) my money back?

Dispute it with your bank, as I said above

Claim on the Car Hire Excess insurance policy you purchased, at a cost of £2 per day or £38 per annum.
  • Complaint : we hired a car from Green Motion on 12 April for a week for a family of five holidaying in Scotland. We went through all the procedures signing out the car. I noticed the damage to the front nearside wheel which was marked on the paper work too and I also took pictures and video as suggested by their advertising video. After leaving the car hire centre and joining the M8 motorway an air pressure warning light came on to check the tyre pressure then went off. The following Morning the near side front tyre was completely flat so I had to change the tyre with the spare not great thing to do on holiday! I called the Glasgow car centre and advised of the flat tyre and given it was a space saver replacement/ spare tyre it would be best to bring the car back to Glasgow. On the return of the car to the car hire centre in Glasgow a check was done and I was advised that I would have to pay for a new tyre and a new alloy wheel totally £578!! as the wheel was cracked on the inside being extremely dangerous to drive in the first place! I had no choice but to pay with my credit card. From the original paper work noting the damage plus the photo and a video (can be sent too) taken before I took possession of the car it is clear that the damaged had already been done before I hired the car. I therefore requested a full refund of the £578 given the above and asked for this to be approved by green motions head office to resolve this matter before going any further
  • Another one here, who didn't check up on the company before trying to use them.
I went through a Ryanair car hire - they have their own comparison site - so I was caught off guard.
I really am annoyed and have fired off complaints all over.
I guess I should count myself lucky that I got the extra insurance (through Ryanair) and so wont lose out financially, but as someone who has hired cars all over Europe without previous problem, this was a real wake-up call
  • They took just under £700 quid off me for a new tyre and an alloy wheel even though I had pictures and a video of the damage before hiring, but I still lost! Even the government body bvrla turns a blind eye at their criminal, scamming in activities!
Green Motion allowed me to drive away with a cracked alloy wheel with 3 young children in the car, how dangerous is that and the bvrla did nothing!

QUOTE=STUARTT;discussion/5810463]{Edited by Forum Team} After renting with Green Motion in Glasgow I returned the car and the agent got a camera out and started to check UNDER the car, finding a scuff mark on the underside of the bumper. I got hit for £769 in charges for a new bumper. The damage report form has no facility to record damage on the underside of the vehicle and the agent who rented me the car and walked me round the whole thing checking it certainly didn't get on the floor to look underneath nor get a camera to look. I've complained to no avail and have escalated it to the BVRLA, but am not optimistic. In the meantime, be careful if you rent from this company.[/QUOTE]
