Why don't they fit blue badges with ID chips - that could be read through the windscreen - by parking wardens ?

How would that stop them being stolen? Or do mean as a deterrent against re-use of a stolen badge?

Anyway I can't see the problem warranting such a high tech and no doubt costly solution.

As a deterrent because thieves know that there is no way that they can be caught at the moment

The ID could be tied in to the number plate
There are approx 2.5 Million blue badges currently issued in UK - With around 3000 being stolen every year (numbers increasing due to "value" - a mobile phone could be converted to read chips - so a cheap solution is readily available

Blue badges are not tied to vehicles. A friend is allowed give a lift to a blue age holder allowing them to display the badge and park in an appropriate bay.

But it wouldn’t be a cheap solution.

And inconvenience the blue badge holder? The entitlement to one isn't tied to that person being able to drive or own their own vehicle.

Just wish they would put the photo in the top side, that way it would be a lot easier to see potential abuse.

    Why?
It's not the car that is disabled.
I often give my elderly neighbour a lift to the local hospital in my car and as he has major problems walking any distance, I use his blue badge to enable me to park in a disabled bay right by the hospital entrance so that he only has to walk a few metres.
