Ye gods and little fishes
I hope all the timings work out for the rest of today, and the weekend.
2023: the year I get to buy a car7 -
Grr that IS annoying - especially when they had assured you it would be OK by a certain time! Seems to be the time of year for it though - we have lots of local cycle track footpaths being done recently as well.Hope the 🐔’s are both OK.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Yes, I assume we're in spending-money-before-the-year-ends mode 🙄 Or in our case, digging-up-the-roads-while-the-tourists-aren't-here mode 🙄8

Evening all, and what a long day it's been.
Vet trip was... well, I think the chickens probably enjoyed it more than we did, and they didn't enjoy it at all 🙄
Rusty up first, not phased by the journey in her little basket with Bessie, who stayed put eating an apple while the vet prodded and poked. Nothing obvious wrong, but she's had a blood test and has some anti inflammatories in case there's something making her feel a bit uncomfortable.
Bonnie next, and that was never going to be easy. When we caught the new ladies to put them in the basket you'd have thought we were killing them, the amount of noise and fuss they made 🙄 When we got to the vets, Bunty escaped the basket and spent the whole time sitting on the bar under the vet's table, while we had to get a nurse to hold Bonnie wrapped in a towel as she just would NOT stay still with just me and the vet. She had a scan, and has got antibiotics, bit of a raspy lung and possible oviduct infection but not sure... Vet said if she'd have been a rescue, she'd have done an implant as if there's any sign of trouble down there it usually progresses quickly. But since Bonnie is young and not a rescue (or the same breed) we're giving her a fighting chance to get over whatever it is.
£300, and they're both going back next Friday 🙄
So not exactly a money saving day!!
On the positive side, the plasterers have finished (although we did notice last night there's a bit knocked out of one of the window reveals - I forgot to mention this morning and they haven't noticed which is a bit annoying). Overall it looks good though!
Electrician is apparently coming Monday to put downstairs lights in, and presumably finish the last couple of upstairs ones.
Upstairs room is cleaned ready for visitors, and I've found all the blankets and mattress type things I can that aren't damp and ready for the tip 🙄 Everything is draped upstairs having a bit of an air - if it's dry tomorrow I'll put the blankets outside for a bit. They'll still need to bring pillows and possibly a duvet though.
Still need to get all the stuff out of the bathroom and give it a good clean, and do a bit of decluttering in the living room and a good dust, but we're getting there.
Might make a cake - partly for them, and partly because I need to cheer myself up a bit!11 -

Me too beanie! 🙄😂
Fortunately our friends are not exactly early starters, and have only just left, meaning they won't be here for another hour. We, of course, went to the cafe for breakfast 😁 and also managed a quick trip round the charity shops, and picked up a dehumidifier as ours is over 20 years old and just will NOT start any more. Plasterer recommended it for helping the kitchen to dry out, but actually our house has always been a bit damp especially at the old end, so it'll come in handy longer term. Currently 82% humidity in the kitchen apparently 😂
So at least we don't have to feed our guests lunch, which is good.
Chickens have had their medicine - liquid this time, and the antibiotics is one that doesn't taste AS vile as some of the others, and Bonnie isn't as suspicious as the older chickens... fingers crossed this continues for the rest of the week.
Blankets are airing on the washing line, and I'm going to have a quick cuppa before hoovering and dusting the living room, and then maybe pottering around in the garden while we wait for the to turn up.8 -
😮😮😮
Friends have been here for 2 hours with their 2 small kids and we are exhausted 😮😮😂😂 It's utter chaos. Our house is not exactly kid proof at the best of times, and right now it's a non-kid-proof building site, requiring constant vigilance. We went for a walk round the fields, which was almost more stressful than being inside, with cows, stone walls, electric fences, etc 😮
Very ready for bed now 😮6 -
Oh dear - yes, I can certainly see that your current environment might not be ideal for children! Hopefully the walk outside tired them out a bit and they too will be ready for bed soon! 😂🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Hopefully you can wear them out before too long Cheery! When my brother's kids were little I always reckoned I was in bed about 10 minutes after them
... in fact, they'd quite often announce that their plans for the weekend involved staying up late, which I always said was fine by me, but I'd be in bed long before them. They grew up with my house being a building site, so were used to being careful ... although there was one memorable occasion when my niece's shoes got stuck on the carpet gripper we were in the process of removing and she couldn't get unstuck. My brother and I just about managed to stop laughing long enough to detach her, but she was FURIOUS. Even now it still makes us giggle.
